Title: Have I done the right thing or have I got it all wrong...again??
Post by: Asbo Sovfinger on 20 September 2009, 21:51
Evening all you MK3 section reading folks.

I have decided to start taking my 8V (AGG Engine code) back to stock in an attempt to de-chav the influences wrought upon it by it's previous owner.  The rude exhaust is staying but the 6 x 9's have gone and the K & N 57i is going, which brings me to tonight's topic; the airbox.

I trawled fleabay and bought this for £15.  The chap stated he'd bought it for his 16v but that it was wrong, but is it going to be right for me:

(http://www.eggroom.co.uk/images/Forum%20pics/airbox%20001.JPG)  (http://www.eggroom.co.uk/images/Forum%20pics/airbox%20002.JPG)

The part no's I can see are: air box itself 1H0 129 607 BG  and Bosch MAF 0280 202 130 (VAG 0379906301c).  Do these even seem right?  The MAF I have in there at the moment is Hitachi (I think) and the unit is 'stand alone' and the filter is jubilee clipped onto the front.  Do I just remove the K & N and put this on it's place or do I replace everything back to plastic pipe leading to the throttle body?  Also the small bore pipes that can be seen in these pics go where?  I understand the top one goes into the inlet manifold but being a complete idiot I'm not sure where.  I haven't had a chance to actually have a dig round in the engine bay yet as I don't really have anywhere to park up out of the way and fiddle with the greasy bits.

Also, I want to smooth the inside (providing it's right for my engine) and want to know the best parts to smooth/get rid of.  Any chance anyone can let me know the best bits to smooth etc from the pics below:

As ever all help and sarcasm appreciated in advance.

I'm not 100% that that MAF sensor will work with your AGG, that's a 2E sensor.

My golf is a 1995 agg and its the same airbox and maf set up as that. This looks like what you need but check the year / eng code to be sure.

That ebay link one is the same airbox and MAF sensor as mine which is a 1997 8v AGG engine with an Hitachi MAF !! Though why the listing says VR6 I don't know as it won't be the right one for a VR6 !!

Very interesting guys.  All help and no sarcasm...have I got the right forum?

The missus is pulling her hair out with my lack of success buying parts from eBay and the forum (don't even get me started on the fcuker who ripped me off £40.00 for a pair of broken headlights who's now disappeared from all sight), but I'd really like to get this done prior to MOT in November.

Ideally I want to recover what I paid so £25 including postage. Unfortunately the one for agg on ebay is collection only so might have phone round local scrappers when I'm back from my stag do.

Right

Have now bought an airbox from an AGG engine and will fit it in the next couple of days.  I asked the guy who I bought it off if he had the 2 small bore pipes that are attached tot he box but he didn't.  Are they 100% vital (considering my K & N doesn't have them at all)?  And if I were to replace them would everything work better?  I intend on smoothing the inside of the box but that might have to wait until I'm back from my wedding and honeymoon as I have other pressures on my head at moment.  I also need my MOT done as soon as I get back so might leave the drilling etc til I get my ticket back too
