Title: Help - emergency!
Post by: Primus84 on 20 September 2009, 20:48
I opened the bonnet of my 06 Mk V GTI this evening to top up the oil. Now the bonnet will not lock back into place. Any ideas on how to get it to lock? Is this a common problem?

I've got family with AA cover, is it something AA man could fix?

Thanks for all help received, I need this fixed asap so I can get to work tomorrow. Starting to panic now!

Sounds like your cable has jammed or at least isn't releasing the catch.

Just come back in from playing around with the car. Just got it to lock in place by using loads of wd40 and playing with the mechanism using a screwdriver. It suddenly just clicked into lock. Thank goodness!

drop it from a height?

I did try that but you can only drop it so far given the mechanism to keep the bonnet open

cheers for the help tho! :)

I was going to say WD40, mine played up a while ago and I did exactly that.

I'm sure this once happened with my ED30 too. Quickly got the WD40 out and sorted.
