I am looking at a '98 Golf GTI in my local garage. When I took it for a test drive that clutch was mega stiff, the gears change fine but the pedal needs pressing v.hard. I am a bit wary as have had probs with a similar aged GTI in the past. Can anyone advise if they think it wud mean replacing the clutch complately (in which case I wont bother-car is only £2000). Any help VERY much appreciated
Cheers

If it is a mk3 then it could be a cable issue, if it is hydraulic then it does sound clutch on its way out.

What's the model?

Tell them you may be interested in the car if the clutch worked properly. Welcome to the site by the way.
