Hi All,
Just joined and what a great site.
I take delivery of my new Mk 6 GTI next week, 3 Door, Carbon grey with 18" monzas.
Here's my dilema, at the time of ordering I couldnt decide on what stereo to go for and whether to get leather. Usually I keep my car for a year then flog on, so the extra expense of the stero and leather would be a waste of money, although I'd get slightly more on resale and maybe make it easier to sell, I would ultimately lose most of the extra money. The benefit of these extras going to the new owner.
Now.... I've decided that I'll more than likely keep this car for 2-3 years, so heres my question.
Should I upgrade to an RCD510 or the Sat Nav version? and if so, where is the best place to get from and how much? Also, will the new radio show all the controls on it like heating and work with the MFSW?
Any idea if you can retro fit leather?
Any idea if you can retro fit rear parking sensors ?
Whats the best hands free system, that would work with the cars steering wheel and show up on the radio screen?
Right, bit of a long first post, but hope some one can shed some light.
Thanks in advance.

i always get leather; some won't agree but i feel it adds to resale.
i would spend your money on the rcd510 with dynaudio - i am v impressed with it.

ETTO. I like the tartan (and the £1,500) better.

Great idea... awesome piece of kit!

I often get leather, but I didn't bother with it on the GTI and I'm glad I didn't. As for the radion, the RCD510 is standard here in France and does show you all the really essential stuff, like parking sensor info, temperature & heated seat details, etc. Also the standard RCD310 you get in the UK doesn't match the rest of the dash, IMHO, so I would upgrade. I believe the satnav option (RNS510) is awesome, but I didn't get it principally as it's exhorbitantly priced.
Great colour choice

Leather is fantastic and adds some a more luxurious feel to an already top interior, don't know about retro fitting though. RCD510 is a must for the sound and the touch screen.

Wow, quick replies.
Looks like im in the market for an RCD510, anyone got one going, or able to recommend somewhere to buy?

If you search this forum you will get most of your questions answered for you.
A few folk on here have / are upgrading to the RNS510 sat nav and have done so via ebay for a ridiculously low price, in the region of £600 I think but I'm sure they will be along to confirm. Play your cards right and you might be able to buy their RCD510's
The fiscon bluetooth unit seems to have a decent write up and is fully integrated

You can get it here for 12.5% off and free fitting http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=127988.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=127988.0)
Not sure about the rear parking sensors but the camera can be retro fitted.

Never used them myself, but this lot always came up a lot in a few modified golf mags

Stephens right, i paid £520 including delivery a week or so ago for my RNS510 from Fleabay. Definately the investment of the year for me, haven't had it long but it's an awesome unit. I love it

I got rear parking sensors fitted by a local auto electrician for £200. Painted carbon grey too to match the bumper.Audible beep system which is all I wanted.

Defo the cloth interior it is so classy looking and I think will be better for resale than the leather. Add to that the fact that you have £1500 to buy your upgraded stereo. I have the rcd510 with dynaudio and it is a superb piece of kit.

Who was the seller?

Like others have said you can pick up an RNS510 from fleabay (just make sure its a trusted seller) I have brought mine over from my mk5 and have had it about a year and paid just £700 iirc. Best investment i have made by a long way.
Have also updated the firmwear twice so its now running as a version C (latest version) with Speed Limits of the road your on also
Also installed the fiscon bluetooth earlier today which works seemlessly with the touch screen.
It just needs vagcom to work with the mfsw and mfd. Once thats done = me a happy bunny + lots of money saved

Dimon8 mate, unit is perfect. Took two days to come, i love it

Forget about retrofitting leather - no chance. (Unless you want to change all of the seats, big, big £££)
Personally I find leather too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer although it does look and feel very nice.
(This has been discussed to death before and is of course a personal choice)
I just love the jacara cloth, it always reminds me of my old mk1.
-
It was very easy... i just watched
tbh it didnt look that hard, but i just didnt want to break anything. Seem to be getting a little feedback from it at the moment, but will wait until I have worked the vagcom on it to see if that sorts it out.

I would definitely recommend to upgrade to at least the RCD510 or nav, I have the RCD310 and wish I'd upgraded

Are they an option in the UK?! We get front & rear sensors standard here.

I'm picking mine up next week and I wish I upgraded to the RCD 510.

Not the end of the world though - plenty on ebay for £300-£400, from memory the VW option price is not so different.
510 is also much better match with an aftermarket bluetooth like Fiscon, fitting mine tomorrow

Is anyone able to recommend an ebay seller for the New RCD/RNS 510 unit? or have one for sale themself?
