Currently in a daze, for some bizzare reason I went out to look at a car this afternoon on a bit of a spur of the moment thing, and went home having signed an order form.
I think this is the most rash thing I've ever done! It seemed a good idea at the time and at happily it still seems a good idea now, but I thought I'd post on here because I need some moral support in the matter!
So all things being well at the end of the week I should be the proud owner of a BMW Z4 M Roadster .
The GTI has been a brilliant car, by far the best I've owned, but 338bhp at 7900rpm is difficult to argue with . I normally spend a lot longer looking at cars and I never had any intention of buying today, but after the test drive I (and it) was sold.
Now I've got a few days of alternating excitement / worry to deal with until I pick it up. Let's hope for some sunny weather so I can get a few days with the roof down! So, have I lost my mind?
-
Where's my "BAN" smiley when I want it
Only kidding.
Haven't the pics and specs of the R20 made you wish you'd waited?
-
Got a pretty good price on the Z4 and a good price on the GTI so it made sense, sort of...
-
The Z4M is an absolute cracker of a car! Pics please!
-
I've done this before, twice! Next time I go to view a car, I'm going to make sure I leave all debit / credit cards at home so I can't start an order.
Hope you enjoy the Z4 and it'd be interesting to hear a comparison when you've got used to it. I was tempted by a Z4 coupe before getting the GTI but decided on having more space and being a bit more anonymous.

Cant stand convertibles and would rather have had the coupe (just personal choice really) but there is no arguing the M roadster is a monster.
Enjoy trying to get people to let you out of junctions :D

+1. Sooooo badly wanted a coupe version but just not practical enough! Good luck with the new ride

Congrats, still German!

Thanks for the comments, I'm still going through that excitement of a new car coupled with the worry that the GTI is a dam good car and I'll regret getting rid of it...
I did say to the salesman that people won't let me out of junctions, I have the feeling I need to buy some Oakley sunglasses and a Bluetooth headset to complete the effect.
I like the coupe too but I fancy something I can put the roof down on to get the full effect of the bonkers engine at 8000rpm. I still can't get over that a 3.2 six revs to that in a normal road car  I'll certainly report back on how it compares to the GTI but on the basis of the test drive it just seems very focused at going preposterously fast and to hell with anything that gets in the way, whereas the GTI really does do everything well. Found out it's got a proper LSD as well so I think I'll be spending some time looking out of the side windows when leaving roundabouts .
Here's a couple of pictures I took on my phone, it's quite a rare colour, Sepang Bronze, which apparently is only available on the Z4M and M5 and M6. The more I see it the more I like it, it's subtle but distinctive (or awful, depending on your taste!)
Yeah, keeping it German!

Very nice. One of my mates sold his edition 30 and bought a used Z4M (making a helluva lotta money in the process). He says it was a fantastic purchase. A real f***y magnet.

hey, what's with the oakley bashing, I have a pair of them! Nice car they do look good.
-
very nice. The 3.2 is a well sorted "evolved" engine.
The new model is supposed to really good but it looks too big and I prefer the look of this model.
