Am thinking of slapping a turbo on my vr6,
But will i have to mod the engine in anyway?
-
hope you realise the amount of work involved in 'slapping a turbo on'.
-
bish bash bosh... lol :)
im sure there will be a sensible answer along soon :)
-
Yeah i know there will be alot of work to do .
But am sure it would be well worth the effort.
-
slaping a turbo ontop of your vr6 is very easy, just plonk it there and admire it and take a few photos...............
connecting a turbo to your vr6 takes more effort
bdepending on how much power you want massivly affects required effort, but the head dose really have to come off for pikey spacers :)
-
Don't they already have a s/c "bolt on" for the VR6?
-
Anything that 'just bolts on' isn't going to produce that much power as it can't run very much boost, or it'll blow the head off the motor.
That's why you need the pikey spacers Danny has mentioned.... it's either that or low compression pistons.
-
low comp pistons is how it should be done but most people never bother on the vr6, they mostly get away with it because it's not actualy makeing that much power per cylinder.
stock 16v makes 37.5 bhp per cyl. tuned NA 16v can do 50 bhp per cyl on std guts
225 bhp = 37.5 bhp per cyl no more stressed than a std 16v
300 bhp = 50 bhp per cyl. stock rods, bearings and pistons will hold that happily.
450 bhp = 75 bhp per cyl. you want to start thinking about shiney bits
600 bhp = 100bhp per cyl. even with shiney bits any more and it's not going to do reliable imo
