Title: Golf over fueling
Post by: EPalmer on 13 September 2009, 11:47
Hi,
Recently bought a mark2 8v gti, was stood for a while at mine, ran well before but didn't seem to go very well at all, changed the cam belt and timing was slightly out, now goes very well but is slightly lumpy on idle and it also smells very rich and smokes, compressions are all ok, wondering if it is the air flow meter because when i disconnect it, it runs smooth and doesn't smoke for a few seconds before cutting out. Can anybody help me please? im stuck.

Cheers Ed

As above, temp sensor is the 1st thing to check / change.

also why would this cause the car to overfuel as soon as started up?

no its the blue or white one in the coolant flange on the front of the head. the reason it would cause it to fiuel incorrectly is the ecu will think the engien is hotter/colder than it actually is, so the fueling will be all wrong.

could also be down to the setup, you may have knocked the dizzy out when doing the belt. Did you reset it as per the digifant FAQ?
