Hi Folks
I've been in contact with my local scrappy for a few weeks waiting on a mk3 golf to come in so I can have the ABF out of it for my mk2. They had one in on scrappage last week so they cant sell it as whole, but they have stripped it and have offered me the engine, subframe, hubs, fuel pump etc for £500.
Is this a complete rip off? I was expecting to pay ~£350-400 for the lot. The engine is a 16v has seen 125k but apparently runs sweet with no knock or smoke (about 30k less than my 8v has done and that still runs fine).
Thanks
Matt

Update, I read you can use the mk2 gearbox so I told them to knock that off the price. Will let you know when they come back to me.

£500 is a good price for a good enginde with the whole lot from a scrappie. they have to make something.
tho i would use mk2 hubs.
my ABF cost me £250 for the car, say £50 to move it. then two of use for roughly a day to strip it. so that works out equivalent to £500
and really you don't get much at all back off the other parts unless your willing to have workshop full of crap forever. the other thing is ABF's are actualy worth more in bits DH was trying to sell a good one a while ago and it took ages to sell altho it was cheep enough, hence why i've just broken two down to sell in bits

Cheers Danny. I'll wait and see what sort of price they are offering without the gearbox, they came back and said £475 all in before.
It is an easy enough job to run an ABF on a mk2 gearbox isnt it? (last question I promise)

Turns out that seperating the parts costs a lot more. so Im going all in for 475 nuggets. Hopefully I'll get everything I need with that.

bolts straight up to a mk2 box useing mk2 clutch.
the only issue is the ABF is capable of munching the mk2 box. you are on the abslotute borderline of what the box will take so long term reliablity massivly depends on your driveing style
-
Which I would class as 'aggressive'... maybe I'll swap the box as well
Thanks again!

Do the box and shafts now, or you'll be back to do them again pretty quickly, I reckon.
