I've just purchased my first GTI, a 98 MKIII
So far so good. The only thing to moan about is the clutch has to be released
a fair bit to reach the biting point, is this normal?
My last car was a K plate XR3I which seemed that bit faster on take off as the clutch release was minimum.
Any comments appreciated

Hello acampbe1,
I known what you mean about quick takeoffs... with your foot halfway off the floor, its harder to get going.
I have the 95 M3 Color Concept model which has the auto adjusting cable on the clutch. This is a great idea from VW in terms of one less maintenence thing to worry about.... but very poor in the fact that the clutch is set and cannot to my knowledge be adjusted manually.
I am eager to hear if anyone else does know of a way to adjust this setup. Perhaps your car is running this auto adjusting clutch set up as well?

Cheers 'git'
Thought I was the only 1, as I couldn't find anything else related on this site.
Mine is a 98 & I believe is the same as yours.
As you said, does anyone else out there no how to adjust?

Hi guys - yes this question has been aired before. I think its in The Garage section but i cant find it atm.
Mine has a similar problem and have been reading the posts but not got round to doing anything yet.
Think its sumthin to do with the spring on the auto adjuster??

Just been looking at it.
Seems you can fit a manual clutch cable and scrap the auto one... (if this is what you have)
