Mine is turning up next week so I'm looking to see if there are any nasty surprises..
So far I've heard about:
No net under rear parcel shelf.
No petrol cap button inside.
No door sill logos.
No turbo whistle.
Anything else??
-
Just enjoy it, rather than trying to pick faults with 'what could have been'!
-
i never had the mk5 gti but...
not sure I like the gear change info on the mfd (should be able to turn it off)
miss the larger door pockets
gear knob feels a little smaller than norm
only minor things that you can live with... not happy about the cargo net though :undecided:
-
Why would you want turbo whistle?
-
I had an Eos with the silly petrol cap button (thanks, Americans with your valet fuel attendants!) for a year and always forgot to pop it. The MkVI's push-to-open flap is much nicer, almost as good as the capless system on our Renault Espace where you basically just open the flap and stick in the nozzle.

I don't believe this!! you are a sad man  This car is far superior to the mk5 it drives better, the interior is better, fuel consumption is better and in my opinion it looks better.
Go out and drive your new car when you get it instead of trying to find fault, the mk5 was a great car but the mk6 is even better.
All the little things that have been mentioned are not going to detract from the overall package which is the mk6 GTI.

Oh I'm going to enjoy it. Really can't wait! Too much time time twiddling my thumbs knowing it's in the country.

Niiice noise. Or is it just me?

I dont particularly like it, the novelty wears off.

trust me, the growl when you put your foot down beats the sh1t out of the turbo whistle

Bottle opener is cheap plastic on the mk6. Thats it, nothing else... Honest

I quite like hearing a turbo 'sing' - but I positively detest the stoooooopid 'psssssst' from blow off valves!

I agree. The Chav soundtrack of choice. Nothing sounds less classy.

The price.
Less road presence.

Less road presence.
clearly you haven't passed one yet! i drove past a mk 5 in black today. while in my mk 6 in black. no comparison, and i love the mk 5. the mk 6 is far more standout, particuarly from the back. i could feel the jealousy from the other side of the road

The Mk5 Gti front was easily identified by other drivers.
The Mk6 gti front looks a little too much like a normal granny golf.
The huge and ugly rear end of both cars is nothing to be proud of.

Look are all down to opinion. Its how it drives thats important

Have to say im struggling to identify mk6 gti's and normal golfs from the front, as theres very little difference. Im sure owners can (as i can tell an R32 over a passat from miles off) so its not a huge issue. Surprised about the filler cap button, i think thats a nice touch!

that's strange cause i didn't realise a normal granny golf has a honeycomb grill and red stripes at the front. or a bigger and lower front. me thinks you need glasses my friend cause i can spot the difference by a solitary glance!
as for the "huge and ugly rear end" each to their own i suppose. i think both backs look the nuts, and i particularly love the split exhausts on the mk6. but that's probably cause i've got one loaded with all the extras in the world. and you haven't

The original design for the Mk6 was a fantastic new and distinctive shape, much better looking than rival Audis.
The first thing Walter de Silva did when he moved from Audi to VW was to drop the new design and make the current rather dull version.
The prime directive was to avoid outshining Audi.
As a result all Audis look mean in your rear mirror, the Mk5 GTI looks just as fierce, the Mk6 Gti just looks like a normal sort of car. Job done de Silva.
-
Rubbish the mk6 is a fine looking beast. Mine in black with the red grille stripes looks plenty mean enough for me, and I love the look of it from the back, imho it is a massive improvement on the mk5 back end at least the bumper is in the same colour as the main body and not a great big lump of matt black plastic.

really? i think they look sh1t, i certainly never move over for an audi, unless i see an rs badge or s-line trim. and even then it depends on what's going on on the road. i think the audi front is totally dated and in big need of a shake up, its dull as sh1t. whereas the front of both the mk 5 and mk 6 are mean as fook.

Up to your old tricks again Egbert Nosh!
The first thing Walter de Silva did when he moved from Audi to VW was to drop the new design and make the current rather dull version.
And your source for that is?????
The prime directive was to avoid outshining Audi.
Source?

Everyones view is different, myself i find the mk5 GTI non agressive its rounded and cute the mk6 has a more angry face The audi looks quite meanfrom the front. There all personal opinions
I also find it funny when mk5 owners go on and on about how the mk6 GTI looks so similar to normal GTIs thats how GTIs use to be and also don't forget how the mk5 GTI looks so much like the many different versions of the GTsports
Just my views as an owner of all the best GTIs

I'm glad I've got a big lump of matt black plastic. It saves the paintwork from idiots that cannot park. I live in a terraced street and I've seen a couple of idiots nudge into my car whilst parking and setting off.
On a similar note, I think the Mk6 could do with some door protection strips. I bet owners will be seeing more dents from car parks in the future.
-
You can buy them as dealer fit extras. Never sean the point of painted ones myself like our mk5 has. Most modern cars no longer have them its a style thing

clearly you stopped reading after this line. if someone wants to go over a ton on a road where the coppers like to sit i'll move over for anyone. not interested in getting banned from driving.
