hi all,
ive had a hunt round for the instructions but struggling,
my 1st golf, a mk3 gti 8v, came with a clifford matrix 1 alarm, but only one set of key/alarm fob
so, i got a new fob off fleabay for good price, but i cant find out how to make alarm recognise it,
i know it has the be in valet mode, and ive found the hidden switch, but what do i do next,
any help or link to intructions, very much apreciated,
and to confirm, do i have to get a key cut from vw? i'm assuming they are coded keys, as i have i cable tie style tag in all the paper work.
thanks

putting it in valet mode is not correct you need to put it into user programming mode
enter the valet code that you have for example if it was 2 then using the valet switch in the dash you press the * button twice then press and hold the blank button until it chirps you are now in programming mode
then follow the instructions you should have with the alarm or the new remote to program the new keyfob
alternatively you could by the user version of clifnet so this would enable you to plug it into your computer to program a new remote
if you do not know the valet code then you are stuffed as you will not be able to get inot any of the programming features without it
as for a key any mobile locksmith can do it for you and program the key to the car

hi, thanks for your reply.
the instructions that came with the alarm are for operating it, dont mention programming it, thou they do tell you whats available, it says to get to valet mode i have to turn the key on then off and press the valet button and the light should stay on, and thats then valet mode, but the instructions dont say anything about coding new fobs, :( the fob i got was off fleabay and was oem, just came wrapped in bubble wrap, but for 10er what did i expect. iwas hoping to come across the installation guide for the alarm off someone but cant seem to get hold of it, so praps ill have to resort to getting intouch with a clifford dealer,
thanks for the starting block thou! and at least i know how to get hold of another key too! so thanks again.

i am a clifford dealer
the problem is the matrix alarms were not actually meant for the uk
but again as i said earlier you need the valet code which will be either a 2 digit code or 4
i will get the programming instructions for you and pm them over

success, did it earlier today, didnt need a code, read both instructions again, and only code it mentions is when u need to silence the alarm without a keyfob, and it specifies the code is a no. of pulses between 1 -5 presses, so wouldnt take too long to get through them.
any how, thanks for the pdf, followed them cautiosly and worked perfectly first time! so thanks!! one less thing nagging me, now to get the key cut.
cheers again
