Title: Fuel consumption
Post by: andykram on 08 September 2009, 21:19
At the risk of sounding boring how are people finding the fuel consumption on their cars?
I do a 62 mile round trip to work on the A1 and M62 (Hull bound so it's quiet) and it's showing 37 on the computer. Obviously it's just sat at 80 or so but for a car of this power I'm well impressed with it. It equates to a tank of over 400 miles and I only ever used to get 500 miles on my Saab 93 diesel!!!
It does visibly drop round town but overall I'm well pleased.
Has anyone beaten that and ,conversely, how low has anyone got so far?

I have now done 1000 miles and according to the trip computer have averaged 34.8. Not bad, I just wish the tank was a bit bigger to give me a bit more range.

I'm moving from a Golf 5 TDi where I managed to get around 600 miles a tank.  Doing 430 miles a tank in the GTi will be a shock for the first 5000 miles.

if i got 420 out of the GTI i would be a happy man, so far i have yet to do more than 320!!! bit of a shock from my old golf diesel which was always over 500!!

I travelled 746km on one full tank... 55 litres?

If it is range which floats your boat - then if the Mk6 has the same tank as the Mk5, you can get an extra 10 litres in after the 2nd click on the pump.  It takes ages to brim it like that, but it effectively makes the tank 65 litres.  There are some 'cautions' though - search the Mk5 section, and it will give you full details.

Im coming from a mk5 that just about managed 250miles to the tank... but used to tell me everytime i filled up that I would get 350!! (liar)

So anything over 300 (20% inc) would be a result

Good form fella!!!  Atleast you gave it a good try. tbh when I push along to similar speed I would with the R im getting only marginally better mpg. It seems waiting for the turbo does really kill your consumption :undecided: (im guessing the engine is still quite tight yet also)

On the plus side if you drive like miss daisy and follow the suggested gear changes you can get very good mpg.
