Lol ... we still going on about this ??? :o ;D
I'd like to see what a chipped 8v running on Optimax would do compaired to the 16v ??
-
Surely you'd have to compare it to a chipped 16v running optimax :P
Interesting graph, never really took much interest in the 8v\16v debate (lets face it 20 valves and a turbo dominate ;D ) but i never thought the claims of higher low down torque figures on the 8v were true, you live and learn ! Upto almost 3k rpm too, impressive.
-
std against std ;)
im just putting the final nail in the coffin of those that say 8v's have more torque low down than 16v's
that graph shows they dont, they are more or less equal until 3k then 8v tails off & 16v takes off ;D
-
Just to ask a question, is there any/much difference in the gearing between an 8v and a 16v or do they run the same box and ratios?
-
I think I'd be right in saying that the 16v runs a closer ratio box with a lower ratio 5th than the 8v, correct me if I'm wrong guys.
-
yep 16v's are slightly more close ratio
8v's are more or less the same except for slightly longer 2nd & 5th gears
a 16v box with an 8v 5th gear is what you want
-
Yup - shame you had to go to such lenghts to prove the point !!
As for a chipped 16v - it's not possible to do so. ?;D
I'd love to see both car's again when they're 'loose' - I'm sure the differences would be the same, but the power figures seem to climb for both ?;D
A few 8v's made it well in to the 120bhp area in the AMD rolling road session, if the same goes for a stock 16v then 150bhp for a stock engine is fecking gr8 !
-
lol maybe i should make it a sticky all on its own with the title "16v are better than 8v fact"
:P :P :P :P
-
Dam u snobby 16v owners ;D
-
When is there gonna be another session?
Just had my cams done and a remap, so keen to see what it's like... my 8v (Mk3) now revs to 6500rpm+ with very little loss of low-end torque " ;D"
-
so that settles it then! :D
-
Lol ... hey you were the main 'trouble maker' Marcus, so be careful ;D
You maybe be quicker than us 8v owners, but there's more of us !!
FIGHT - FIGHT - FIGHT !!!! ;D ;D
-
f**k it, who said 8v's are fast anyway? mine aint :D
-
Lol, neither is mine, that will change in time though!
I do however like the drive of my 8 valve, i've owned both types and would deinately say the 8 valve is punchier lower down.
-
i couldnt afford the insurance on a 16v. and that was the entire basis for my 8v purchase. it is quite a fruity 8v tho

All Golf's r000l end of story really! ;D

here are my power and torque graphs
