gonna adjust the rear brakes so the handbrake isnt so high question is do i need vw tool to wind them back or can i improvise
-
check the handbrake isnt binding as when mine bind the hand brake gets higher
to loosen i spray with wd40 and tap the handbrake mechanism/lever on the caliper up and down with a small hammer till it springs back freely on its own
-
ok will check 2moz

If you just want to reduce the amount of clicks - you can tighten up the nuts at the lever in the car
If you want to tighten the handbrake, its more involved and requires this : http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=49436.msg1000233#msg1000233

thanks ben , ive adjusted the cable but think its the brakes that need adjusting.
so do i need vw tool to wind piston

You don't need a VW special tool - but you do need a brake winder.
