They're expensive (about £180 here in France), so I don't want to make a mistake. Question: can you put the standard carpetted hardboard floor on top to cover up the compartments and , if so, do you get a floor that's level with the boot lip?
PIX OF MINE ARE ON PAGE 2

Can't see the point of one of these to be honest!!! seems like a load of dosh for something that is not entirely worthwhile, but that is my opinion only. I would rather spend £180 on some new cd's to play on my dynaudio system. lol
-
Wow £180 thats a lot of dosh. You could make one from wood quite easily.
Even if you had to buy a cheap router to make the compartments interchangeable it would work out a lot cheaper.
Stain it black and it would look ok. That way you would be guaranteed to be able to put the carpeted hardboard floor on top.
-
Agreed. Also - and at the risk of answering my own question - I don't think the stock floor would fit on top, because the boot narrows as you move up. I did a quick simulation using a couple of plastic crates and the floor is too deep at lip height, so I would also have to make another one of those. Don't know if I can be bothered just to conceal a pair of walking shoes and a cagoule...
-
those dividers look like those you can get from Ikea :undecided:
-
I know, they look cheap but are expensive  That's why I wondered if you could cover them up...
-
see if you had a MK4 you'd have in the left corner a little flap where you could easily fit your walking shoes and cougale
isn't progress wonderful
-
You can gat a canvas type divider, which when not in use can be folded up.

at £14.99 a bit cheaper!!!!!
Or you could really splash out and go for the deluxe model at £9.99

Christ, those are awful! They'd go nicely with my fold-up deck chairs and wicker picnic basket, though

In the MK5 there is a net underneath the parcel shelf. This is ideal for holding cr@p like that.
-
Don't let those miniature tennis rackets fool you!
-
That looks like a good idea until you go over a bump or round a corner and everything clatters against the hard surfaces. You'd be better off with a cargo net or a sports bag.
-
Went to my local dealer this morning just to ask what the price was. He had one in stock, so I had a good look and decided to buy it. It is actually very good quality (apart from the wheelie bin appearance of the black plastic base) and - crucially - it comes with a non-slip rubberised cover.
OK, it's expensive, but what appeals to me is having a higher boot floor that is now flush with the boot lip so I don't have to bend down so much (I'm 6'3"). I can shove all my bits & pieces like the now compulsory safety vest & triangle in the compartments out of the way, leaving a nice clean empty boot space. I never carry anything in the Golf anyway, I have a Transit van for that
-
so where's the pics then?
unwritten rule of the forum - you can't buy anything and post about it unless you have pictures!!

 Agreed, this should be a forum rule!
So I guess the carpet fits on top okay then?

Please forgive my transgression :embarassed: Here are some fascinating pictures of my boot divider, complete with my nerdy little objects stowed neatly in the compartments  Note how the boot 'floor' is now flush with the lip. It does reduce capacity by, I would say roughly 25%, but I don't mind as the GTI will never have to carry much kit.

I'm a crazy OCD'd neat freak, but even that is taking it to the extreme!
Out of sight and all that...

Nice. Have you taken your car into your kitchen? Never seen a tiled garage before

Lol, I knew you'd give me stick on those pictures  No, it's not the kitchen, we have a tiled (and air-conditioned :embarassed:) garage...
-

It's only here in slummy England we don't have such niceties! Now where can I find suitable tiles for my garage?
The boot divider actually looks pretty good. I didn't realise it had its own lid too.
-
Oh how very posh!!! those French folk do know how to live!! lol nice one must admit the boot divider does look neat and tidy but I have a dog guard and a boot buddy in mine so that the dog travels in the best of comfort lol
-
It does seem to eat the boot space but I guess it stops things flying around which is good. You could probably squeez a haldex under there
-
In my boot on the drivers side i have a storage compartment, where is your frog ? or does the boot liner cover it ? :undecided:
-
Don't know what you're refering to, I never had a storage compartment in the boot, other than the spare wheel well.
-
i thought you had to keep your dayglo jacket within reach, so you can wear it as you get out of the door
how long before we get a stupid new EU law...
-

Is that wishful thinking?

Yes we do. I keep mine in the little drawer under the seat. Incidentally, they have now realised that it is more dangerous walking down the hard shoulder to put the warning triangle down than actually staying by your car... duh!!

Is that a no??
-
yea...how come there is no little storage compartment on the right hand side of the boot ? (keep my oil top up in it) and is that a net under the parcel shelf ? ..I had one of those in my mk 5 and miss it.

The net came as standard, although I only noticed it yesterday when I took the photos and will probably never use - what did you put in it? However, there's no storage compartment in my car, just that strap thing on the driver's side (LHD) where I suppose the official VW safety jacket and triangle are supposed to go.
-
Im quite sure the strap is for the 1ltr of oil they should supply you with. Cargo net is excellent (or used to be ). Great for holding bottles of spirits or wines, anythign that you dont want flying aroung your boot and making noise.

Ah, finally somewhere to put my son...

Errr, I've got a Map, a jacket and other assorted tosh under the net.
Also, a litre of oil in the left recess and a litre of VW screenwash in the right cubby hole.

Thanks. Isn't this a fascinating conversation!

That is for the warning triangle and first aid kit.
-
The net goes over your shopping or other loose items in the boot so that they don't fly around.

Did you order the storage pack as the net comes with that?

No, but I think it must come as standard in France. We also get the RCD510 and a couple of other things you don't. Weird.

Lucky sod. I was amazed though when I saw the RCD510 wasn't standard in the GTI here in UK. It is the top model of the Golf range after all.
What else did you get - or am I just going to become even more jealous..
-
Can't recall off hand, but it's only minor stuff like the puddle lights in the mirrors (are those an option in the UK?). The RCD510 is the main difference. Also bear in mind that the base price over here is a few hundred quid more, so none of it's free really
-
I`d send your car back ,sounds like a miss build to me,ask them where your missing storage compartment is.
