Hi guys,
I have a P plate mk3 Gti 8v and was thinking about upgrading my speakers. What are the best direct replacements? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Which? Just the front door speakers?
Depends on how much you want to spend mate!

Are they running straight off hu or will you be looking at an amp later on for them.
Best to get to a shop or meet & have a listen to see what you like the sound of. They'll be 6.5s size wise.

Currently they are running off the head unit, its the door and dash speakers i'm looking to upgrade for a start.

The door & dash speakers are called component speakers. They have a crossover which sends the optimium signal for each speaker, to the correct speaker.
They're 6.5 inchs in diameter. So what you need to look for are a set of 6.5 inch component speakers.
If you are planning on adding an amp later on, bear this in mind when choosing speakers now. Go for speakers that would suit the sort of amp power rating you would consider getting. As if you buy not very powerful speakers now you'll need to upgrade again when you get an amp.
If you never intend to get an amp ignore the above paragraph.
What budget do you have?
What hu do you have?
