Title: Ipod Connection
Post by: grumpy86 on 05 September 2009, 23:25
I've got an Mk 5 Golf GTI, just wondered if anyone new of anyway of connecting an ipod to the standard head unit already in the car. Without me taking the head unit out i'm not sure if there is anything on the back of the unit to connect in to.
My other option is to buy a new head unit, but didn't want to mess up the look of the interior as the current head unit doesn't look too bad in there!

With the correct connector kit you should be able to connect to the aux in at the back of the head unit.

be aware that the VW kit only shows you six play lists on the head unit...

The Parrot MKI9200 is a pretty useful kit which will do what you want plus give you a bluetooth handsfree kit through the car's speakers.

Have you got the 6CD changer in the front arm rest? If so, you can buy ther VW ipod dock which is a straight swap and doesn't require you to remove the head unit. It's available from your stealer, but they will rape you for about £250.

Yes i've got the cd changer, but ideally wanted to keep that in there and plugged in. Will the Parrot MKI9200 kit allow me to still use the cd changer?

I'd agree with this!

The VW IPOD connector is the worst piece of rip-off kit that VW do

I had a look at the VW MDI kit that but it was a tad expensive.
