Title: Heated Washer Jets.
Post by: JMallows on 13 September 2004, 19:39
Hi, i got two heated jets, and most of the loom from the scrap yard ytoday. I only went as far as half way with the wire, i saw that one went to earth, and the other to a connector on te fusebox. I couldn't be bothered with it, so i just cut it. Anyway, to wire it up... is it simply brown wire to earth, black wire to 12V (switched)? Or not? I tried that arrangement on the battery, but the water wasn't getting hot, do i have to wire it different, or are the jets knackered?

I think they are just wired to come on with the ignition, probably just broken :(

If you get a multimeter and connect the prongs to the pins on the plug it should pass current.  If it doesn't the element is fecked!

Good, that means the element is fecked then! Know how much new ones cost??

Can only get em from VW!  Probly expensive.  I have a few spares lying around in my garage...  I'll check em!

errr these dont actually heat the water up so you can feel it they just stop the jets freezing in winter

lol, I was about to say that too!
they'd have to be mega hot to heat the actual water up.
I thought they wired into the heated rear screen wires like the mirrors do and get warm like that?

When i think about it like that, it does seem kinda obvious! With that in mind, if i wire the black to live, and the brown to earth, and hold the unit, it should be hot, well warm, right? Or will it be so un-noticable? Don't want to wire it all in for nothing!!?

its barely noticeable and they are wired into the rear screen thru the switch. to be honest, if i didnt have them i prob wouldnt upgrade to them cos its quite a fiddle for not a big thing, leccy mirrors yeah but not jets, whatever you do DO NOT get any W A N K E R lights!

I see... Don't worry, i won't get " W A N K E R lights" ! Look at the post about washer jets i'll post in a little while, you'll see what i've one.

My friend has a 90spec golf, and she said the jets were very good, as i was sceptical, i didn't think they'd do much. She said they were really good!! What i might do is get a little 12V immersion heaer to heat the water up in the bottle! I'll start a poll.....
