I'm getting a parrot kit fitted next week and I've got a few questions regarding my radio.
I bought the car used and so haven't got the radio code, because of this I have these questions:
1. If the battery is disconnected will the unit ask for a radio code (I have heard that they don't as the radio is matched to other bits in the car and only cares if it is put in another car?)
2. Can the stealer get me a replacement code?
3. Will they charge for this info (if so any ideas how much)?
4. Any alternatives to going to a stealer?
Cheers!

Have you looked in your service book? The code is usually on a credit card sized chitty on the inside of the front cover!
I've had the battery off a few times and it has never asked me for the code
The stealer should be able to get the code for you, or re-code it.
They will charge unless you soft soap them a little
Some audio dealers have the capability of re-coding the head unit - just like some people will re-code mobile phones

The problem is the previous owner lost the whole manual, service booklet package! I'm still awaiting a new manual (collecting it from the dealer today) and I have a replacement service booklet.
So can anyone else confirm that disconnecting the battery will not cause the head unit to ask for the code?
Cheers!

IIRC, disconnecting the battery WILL require the code - but that is for the RNS-MFD2 - weather this applies to the other head units - I don't know! :undecided:

I had a RCD300 in my car, took it out, and checked all the documentation, and I do not have a radio card.
As Hurdy says, I also have disconnected the battery, and the head unit has never asked for the code. Head unit worked fine upon reconnection.

Ahhh, yes, my original head unit was an RCD300!
So Primus84, which head unit have you got?

The basic rcd300 I believe. That's the basic one without cd changer in it or elsewhere
thanks

You should be fine with the RCD300 - I have done a full battery disconnection etc... and not had to recode it.

Me too.
If your dealer is providing a new service book though, they may give you the code if you ask nicely.

Same here with the rcd 500...
