realisitly what are the fuel consumptions on the edition 30 ie mpg seen one and i like;;;;;
-
If you seriously need to ask about fuel consumption, then you probably can't afford to run one.
Whilst the FSI technology definately adds improvements in fuel economy over normal fuel injection, if you drive a GTI as it's meant to be driven, you will prolly get mid to late 20s.
HTH
-
Yeps, not known for they're economy that's for sure. Normal gti town driving lucky to get 310 miles from 55 litres.... You do the math.... Can get way more on motorways though circa 50-70 miles to the tank.
-
My average over the full time I've had the car (both stock and modified) = 18.7mpg
-
you dont buy an edition 30 to worry about fuel ecomomy

Exactly! :afro:
-
It depends.
From experience:
If you cruise on the motorway in no particular hurry you'll see > 36mpg at a GPS indicated 70mph on the computer,
At a GPS indicated 80 I guess (because I wouldn't know )you'll see closer to 32mpg
If you are gentle and tool around on A roads and B roads you'll see 30-32mpg
In town you're likely to see mid to high 20's - depending on traffic
If you drive it hard on non-motorways low to mid 20's mpg...
Mine is standard.
Given the perrformance available I think it is pretty good on fuel but on large throttle openings will see it drink quite heavily - not a problem for me.
I suspect my average over 32,000 miles (I picked mine up a year ago today) would be around 28-30mpg although I haven't measured it probably 75%-80% of my driving is on motorway/dual carriageway.
-
I ran a 100 mile run between 60-80mph on Saturday and averaged 33.5mpg. That included a 5-minute idle.
My Long term average is 29.5mpg over seven months and 5k miles.
BUT, driven more 'spirited' on a great road, I have seen figures in the teens....
-
i`ve no ides what mine is , i just re-fill when it gets to quarter of a tank
-
I average about 26-28 mpg.Normal GTI.
-
SW London / Surrey - I average 28mpg but see 26-37mpg on computer .... 37mpg on gentle motorway work, 26mpg with it in town.
-
buy a R32!!
ed30mpg wont seem so bad then
-
Wifey has managed....wait for it................42 mpg on a run.
Between fill ups between 26 - 34mpg.
When I prise the keys out of her hand I can do 18mpg easy
-
Around 27 sometimes.
One a typical run to work, I can get up to 38 if Im lucky. Thats with steady motorway driving at 70 for 10 miles, and then 50-60 on the A roads for another approx 10 miles.
Never seen above 40!!
-
In my ED30, I get comparable mpg to the other forumites.
Heavy footed town driving: 18mpg
Normal town driving: 22-26mpg
Clear roads town driving (and practically no fuel left): 30mpg
Heavy footed motorway driving: 24-26mpg
Normal motorway driving: 30-32mpg
60mph constant on motorway: 40+mpg
The GTI isn't designed with fuel economy in mind, but if you're careful enough, you can get comparatively decent mileage. The problem with the GTI is that it's too difficult to stay lightfooted. I never thought I could manage 30mpg city driving but ran out of fuel and with the indicator telling me I had 10 miles left, I went for high gears and managed to get to a station with 5 miles left.
-
We have averaged 30.5 over a year of motoring with our Pirelli.
However our car is really only used on weekends for proper diriving (no commuting or real town driving).
We get about 370 -380 miles on a tank of fuel normally (trip + fuel computer) but have done a little better (420) and worse (310). I'm sure we could get a lot less if it wasn't for motor way crusing at around the 70 - 75 mark. The best milage has been on steady A road driving (34-35 ish).
The car is poorer at motorway speeds in cold air and can tehn be down to 340-350 per tank.
-
Sorry - also would say this is the best car I have ever owned    and at 9500 miles a year I am more than happy with the running costs and would buy exactly the same again - I still smile every time I get in and close the door or walk back to the car.
My brother has an imprezza - moded up to sti spec and he admits that he would prefer our's. It is a really great balance of performance and reallistic tank range and mpg.
The manual 230 feels must faster in gear than the 200 bhp dsg by the way (my impression from our pre purchase test drives).

To the OP - if you are asking about the mpg and running costs, dont get a GTI. You will always be looking at how much its costing - how much the fuel is costing per week, and so on.
I asked about mpg etc before I bought my GTI, and I always look at costs now - trying to save where I can.
Its an expensive car to run, and, as much as I love her, Im now questioning whether I should keep or sell mine.

I find lunch is over-rated

lol - well Im skint at the moment, which is probably why Im feeling like this! Ive finally got rid of the credit card balance that I had transferred after some home improvements. Finally, I can start saving a bit now!
I know I can afford the car on my wage, pretty positive I can, which is why I bought it in the first place. But then I think..........I spend about £50 a week on fuel - I could easily save there with another car.......
No, sod it. I love my car. Im keeping it!

I direct you to my previous statement

I have heard from a reliable source that remapping makes your car more efficient!!

The GTI/Edition 30 is not an expensive car to run. It may be relative to some others but compared to some I have had in the past it is relaively inexpensive.
My previous car was a Jag S-Type R (4.2V8 with SC, 400bhp/400lbft), the rear tyres lasted 10,000 miles and were ~£250 each, the fronts lasted about 20K and were > £200 each (work that out... 8 rears and 4 fronts in a year), servicing every 10,000 miles (iirc) was a minimum of £300 before they lifted the bonnet, Group 20 insurance, and 20-25mpg... I loved it but couldn't justify the cost over 40K miles per year.
The Golf on the other hand in the year I've had it (33,000miles) has needed 2 tyres at ~ £150each (I need another full set and they're being fitted on Friday), one service (its about 2,000 miles from the second one), cheaper insurance, ~30mpg...
Now, luckily someone else pays for my fuel but even so...
Look at the price of the car when it was new and judge the likely running costs from that... a £60K car like the Jag definately has £60K car running costs even when bought used for much less than half of that... the £20K Golf on the otherhand has similar running costs to most other £20K cars but will be more expensive to run than a £10K Polo...
-
S-Type R is a hugely underrated car. Had the pleasure of one for a long weekend, a very entertaining drive and effortlessly fast. Super comfortable too.
Styling inside/out is not to my taste though, and I averaged only 18mpg.
They are temptingly cheap these days.

To buy, yes, to run... err... no... it still has the running costs of a £50K+ super-saloon
I loved it, proper perrformance, excellent ride comfort and, courtesy of the CATS adaptive damping, good handling... I just could justify the costs involved on an asset that was depreciating at the rate it was... mine was a fully specced up facelift ex-demo car... still miss it now...
The Golf's pretty good but the Jag showed what an extra £35k (in terms of new price) gets you in terms of performance, ride, fit, finish... and bills

Phew that was close ifti......
7 months of ownership here and loving it.
Having said that wifey has said today 'I fancy an A4 Cab'...........
The ED30 as well as her hack is my play thing and ........IT STAYS.
I have an new A4 143PS Multitronic S-line saloon with the 19's, MMI and other bits and bobs being built this week and that is hardly going to light my fire although it will be nice, but........the ED30 rocks.
