Title: cd player wont cut out???

hi, Basically my standard cd player/radio used to switch off when i pulled the keys out the ignition.
Now even if i pull the keys out the ignition it still stays on??

why has it start doing this?

sounds like a shorted ignition switch to me. Mine has gone but it went the other way so that no matter where the key was the HU never switched on.

I wouldn't think it would be impossible for it to ''stick on'' instead though.

possibly the switch itself. I have no real idea where exactly this is but it is near the ignition barrel. When I blew mine all I saw was a puff of smoke and heard a pop, I never looked into it any further as I didn't see any need.

Did you replace yours then mate & Did you fit a new one yourself??..
Yes a few people have told me its the Ignition Switch what has gone..
 :sad:
Only £25 from the Stealers which isnt too bad i suppose..
 :wink:

no, I didn't. It is still gone to this day I just have my headunit wired up as yours is now, always on. I prefer it this way anyway as it reminds me to take the face off, I can imagine it would be slightly less useful and more annoying with a standard stereo though.

Ive been advised to get it done as one day your car might not start full stop as the Ignition Starter will pack up..
 :sad:
So ive ordered my part today & going to look into getting it fitted..

very doubtful. May depend on different mk's though.

The starter has nothing to do with this part of the ignition switch, at least not in the way you think. They are separate ( in a way), if they were not then mine would not start now (mk3).

no harm in changing it.

on mk2's they regularly go and even when driving you cannot use full beam lights or windscreen wipers and other various things IIRC, there is a very easy bypass though. I did it on one of my friends mk2's a few years ago and its still going strong.
