I just came back from holiday to find my golf miserably wet inside - I didn't leave any windows open. Under the mats front and back on the floor is absolutely soaking passenger and drivers sides yet the carpet running down from the doors (where I assumed the leak would stem from) to the floor seem dry - quite a mystery. I'm assuming that if I just ignore the problem my car will start to stink like a rotten pond but anyone got any suggestions on tackling these kinds of issues...I don't fancy ripping all the carpet out to dry it off but I'm worried that new life will start to form if I don't deal with it?
Any help appreciated

open your bonnet and check under the scuttle panel near the wings, there are drain holes there and they sometimes get blocked and can cause this. hope this helps

not sure if its related, but if i park my mk2 (3door) facing uphill in the rain, the rear passanger foot well has an inch of water in it. Never got to the bottom of he problem, I just park the car facing down, and it never happened again

check the heater matrix as these can burst and flood the car,and as said check under the scuttle for blocked drainage holes.

hi i had a leaky mk2 was a combination of crap in the scuttle panel and door membranes replaced and cleaned now lovely and dry

Also check the seal between the pollen filter and the metal (-assenger footwell puddle ), and the rubber grommet surrounding the throttle cable and bonnet release cable (Driver footwell puddle). They are the most likley to fill the footwells if the door membranes are intact.
I put a bit of bearing grease all around the throttle/bonnet cable grommets and that seems to stop the leaks.

rear drainage pipes in the sunroof mines does the same as yours when pparked facing up hill watergathers in the recess of the sun roof and pours in. get a long piece of thick wire and poke it down the tubes till it stops if it comes out the back end of the tube inside the boot its not that thats blocked if it dont then it probably is and ya should try and un block it. iv just never got round to doing mine so i park it facing down hill all the time lol
