Dear Volkswagen,
Having owned my MkVI for a month now, I would like to submit the following list of tweaks - in no particular order - that I would like you to implement for the MkVII GTI:
- standard xenon & LEDs
- wider choice of wheels
- heated seats that you don't have to switch back on every time you start the engine
- heavier bolstering at shoulder height on the front seats
- a less fiddly cruise control
- greater difference between Comfort and Sport settings on the ACC (i.e. an even more compliant Comfort setting)
- an even fatter steering wheel rim (P.S. the flat bit isn't really necessary)
- about 15% more power (250-ish would be nice)
- parking sensors 'on all the time', i.e. not just when you engage reverse
- delete the seat belt chime (I know you will never do this, but I'm asking anyway)[/li]
Anyone think of anything else? :)
-
yes... 4wd and a V6
-
Narrower
Lighter
Much better steering
Hybrid engine
Cheaper
Faster
Better paint
No corrosion
ASAP

Hello Egbert, whats with the change in user name

lol
always would be back

More choice on alloys (in the UK)
More choice on leather (colour wise) E.g. Saw a Mk 5 today, black with sand beige leather, looked great.
-
Have they sorted out the design flaw that dumps a roof load of water all over your arm when you have the window open? If not thats a must for the Mk7.

that is simply the most annoying thing ever!! will check tomorrow and report back... no doubt it wil be pi$$ing it down

Apparently not

Nope  That's happened twice to me now

Slower
Uglier
More expensive
Less practical
Then I won't feel the need to change! :)

Does anyone know the exact reason why the steering wheel has a flat bottom? It just seems a bit pointless to me so they can get rid of that on the VII.
How about a more realistic price, otherwise they'll price converts like me into another marque.

I like it, for me thats a must keep. Just another little touch that sets it apart from the cooking models.

delete the seat belt chime (I know you will never do this, but I'm asking anyway)
Please tell me this can be disabled. If not by the dealer or VAG-COM then I'll be willing to cut cables, pull out lightbulbs or whatever is necessary!
back to the list:
much lighter construction
a more charismatic engine (5 or 6 cylinder would be nice, if unlikely)
bigger standard wheels
in fact, any other wheels than the Monzas
less chrome on the dash and switches
DSG with total manual over-ride
ESP with total manual over-ride
standard adaptive chassis with - you guessed it - manual over-ride
standard bluetooth that works with more than one brand of phone
a standard radio which doesn't look like it was pulled out of a 2001 base model Lupo
DAB which I can have with sat-nav and a reverse camera
parking sensors which you can't see
auto wipers that have a simple old-fashioned fixed-intermittent setting
auto lights which switch off again when it's not dark (or is this sorted on the Mk6?)
metallic/pearl colours other than black, silver, blue-grey, grey and grey (although they all look good!)
xenons and LED's
decent quality optional leather
the option to remove any factory standard equipment which I don't want and get a discount as a result
and finally...
retractable mudflaps

Because of a big, deep, VAG parts bin. Good enough for Lambos and RSs', good enough for VW...?

The official reason is that it helps you get in and out more easily, i.e. your legs don't rub on the rim when sliding in and out. IMO, it's just there to flatter our egos and make us think we're driving an F1 car, whose flat-bottomed wheels do actually serve a purpose, as they sit just millimetres from the driver's thighs. All a bit ridiculous really: F1 drivers don't usually have to negotiate roundabouts during a Grand Prix, flat-bottomed wheels on a Golf just make turning unnecessarily awkward.

Never had any probs with the flat bottom... it also helps you know where the wheels are at without looking at the wheel.

acc standard, xenons standard etc, this is VW do you think you'll get them on the mk7 for the same price as a mk6 ? Yeah they may come standard but you'll pay a premium for them.
-
Sounds like you guys should have just bought a Mk5, will you ever stop moaning?
As for the flat bottomed wheel, never met anyone who didn't think that was a nice little touch. Until this thread was started.
Get out there and drive your cars for god sake instead of moaning about something you can only of had for about 2 or 3 months so far.

+1 again. Little touches like these make the difference

I'd rather have a properly round wheel...but then it wouldn't give people the option to put 'FBMFSW' in their internet signature...
It's all fashion anyway...a round wheel is nicer to use for hard driving...seems good enough for some of the worlds best drivers cars, so why not a Golf GTI?
Pity it wasn't an option to have a round steering wheel.
That would be a good Mk7 option (preferably no cost) - a round one instead of the silly flat bottomed one.
-
I've just read the first reviews of the Mazda 3 MPS. Fair enough, they say it's a bit crude and not as good as the Mk 6 to drive and to be in but have you seen the kit list as standard? Xenons, sat nav, 18 inch alloys etc. etc. All for £21 500 which will no doubt be discounted before long.
So suggestions for the Mk 7 - MAKE IT CHEAPER or at least make some of the above standard or a lot of people will be off to Mazda. I think I could handle a bit of crudity for those nice bits of kit and £3000 in my pocket. Put those things on a Golf and it's £5000 difference.

Handling on a par with the Renault Megane and Focus.
Rear wheel drive

What? The mazda 3?
For me, its bigger, uglier and hasn't the same image.
That said it is much cheaper, much better value, more bhp, and if the handling is better then I agree that is what the mk7 needs to close in on.
-
I don't want a cheaper Golf GTI. High prices keep the riffraff away and help the image :)

I'm not talking about the Mazda 3. It's what the next Golf should aim for.

I can see your point Frog. I'm just thinking selfishly, though. If it gets much more expensive I won't be able to afford one myself and I'm not riff raff as you call it.
-
Make it look like a mk2 but with modern refinement and power!!

Lol, I know, let's ask VW to put up the prices for everyone else but us. Problem solved :)

keeps the chavs away!

I'd like heated leather seats that have the option to heat back and bumb seperately and then combined if you want. In the summer evening you may not want a hot arse or your farts may be sufficiant to keep your bumb warm and having a warm seat back is nice if you have a bad back. Then come the cold winter months I would like to have both back and arse nicely warmed by the seat.
Is that a bit wierd? :undecided:
-
Memory seats and memory mirrors.
-
Memory heated seats with seperate back/arse controls
-
Agreed on the steering wheel for sure, keep it flat! Heres another one missing in the MK5 and MK6 (correct me if I am wrong about the MK6)
Allow the folding mirrors to automatically fold in when you lock the car. Allow them to fold out when you unlock or start the car. An option for this would be nice!
Annoying thing about this one is that I am sure it can technically be programmed in ok for those of us with MK5 foldy mirrors and also the same on the MK6. Some give me a guide for VagCom and I would sure give it a go!
-
Give the UK buyer the same choice of alloys they have in Europe or even the USA.
-
Agree on the automatic folding mirrors. Renaults have this, so why not VWs?
As for wheels in Europe, we have the same 'choice' as you do in the UK (two almost identical designs, just different diameters). I believe you can get a 19" option in Germany, but remember that their roads are snooker-table smooth.

FFS, this is standard on the old ford Fiesta Ghia. :nerd:
Why not a £22k+ GTi?
-
A better choice of colours.
Rolfe.
-
combine ACC sport mode with DSG "manual" mode plus an extra 25% bhp via an adjustable engine map.... all the the push of a button "m sport" style!
-
Send VW a link to this thread or email, some good ideas.

Yes.

Don't launch it until 2013 at the earliest!

Amen to that! at least let us have some fun with our mk6 before bringing out a mk7.

Are you not forgetting Lowes hairpin - on the 'toffs procession' they also call the Monaco GP!

Whats wrong with that, the mk5 was/is a cracking car, they made it better. Dont see the problem myself.

Keeping the MKV for at least another couple of years, then it'll be a toss up between a MKVI GTi and an S4 Avant. Kids dependant!

Dont think anyone has mentioned it yet, but how about keyless entry and ignition?

Think its going to be an option on the Golf R. So quite likely to see it on the mk7 :nerd:
