Need some advice here from current GTI owners!
Got a quote for a 3-service plan (10000miles /year) today thru the post from my local VW dealer
£499
Include routine servicing, MOT, oil and fluids
Sounds ok until I read the exclusions (The list is longer)
The most noticeable exclusion=Maintenance. Wonder what that means? :undecided:
Anyone got a cheaper quote?
-
I paid £299 for the first 3 years servicing,Mot ???? new cars don`t need one for the first 3 years
-
We paid £250 for 3 years, max 30,000 miles. Check out the VW configurator.
£499 seems a bit steep, unless this is the after market plan. That is, unless you ordered it with a new car you have to pay extra!!!
-
Actually i think mine was £250 can`t be bothered to check at the moment ,Vw dealers should offer it to you when you buy the car.
-
Yeah I too paid £250. I was offered this on the VW configurator and then again at the stealers when placing my order.

Volkswagen offer a simple one off £250 service plan that covers you for 36months/30000 miles.
Cars must be set onto Time/Distance (annual) servicing and will qualify you for:
at 12mths/10000 miles - Oil Change service
at 24mths/20000 miles - Interval service (including oil change)
at 36mths/30000 miles - Inspection service (inc oil and brake fluid change)
This is available for all Golfs delivered before the end of the year (although the almost certainly will extend it)
herbie: It sounds like your dealer is offering you their own internal version which is normally for used cars as you won't need an MOT for three years (as simonpolly said).
There should be posters in your dealership advertising this offer. If not, you may want to point them towards this: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/golf-gti-vi/buying-guide/offers/
You can buy these plans upto 30days after your car was registered or it can be added onto a finance agreement! We have about an 80% uptake on these....
Hope that helps

Thanks guys for the reply! One of the friendliest car forum!
I will check with the dealer this weekend! £250 is good VFM!

Can you tell us what exactly the interval and inspection service involve on a GTI, other than what is mentioned above?
-
I was told by my dealer I could take the service plan after the car was delivered, also the 2 years extra warranty.
-
if its any help i decided against the £250 service plan as it didn't cover stuff like brakes, wiper blades etc etc. so i went for the £20 a month plan which covers everything and is a yearly service/10,000 miles service.
-
Thats £720 over three years ,i should hope it does cover alot more.Standard £250 covers everything that you would expect from a normal service regime over the three years.

And I'm going with, take a hike VW, Andrew at the end of the road will look after it, and there's even a bus stop outside his garage where I can catch a bus to work.
Rolfe.

i hope andrew has a VW dealer stamp! worth it for that FVWSH even if you come to sell after 5-7 years. if you're gonna run it into the ground then fair enough, but never say never.

Don't care. My Peugeot had a full Peugeot dealer service history until I moved here, when it was 10 years old. It was (figuratively) like a new car after he'd finished with it.

It may have been like a new car after he had finished with it, but a prospective buyer wont take your word for it, a FSH is what people look for. Personally If you were selling your GTi without one, I wouldnt entertain it.

Indy for repairs, mods or ad hoc stuff, but I still continue to use a franchised VW stealer, purely to get the all-important stamp in the book.

But then you are stuck with whatever tyres came factory fitted - fine if it came with PS2s (but that is highly unlikely), but not good if it came with ShyteMaxxs!

I seriously believe that with the money you are going to be spending on this tremendous car you really do need it serviced by a bona fide VW service centre, you will never recoup the full value if it is not vwfsh stamped. I think you really should re-consider only for your own benefit.

Another point is goodwill out of warranty. Should the worst happen and say your gearbox explodes a year out of warranty, a VW service history will stand you in good stead for getting goodwill. An indy's won't get you squat.
Whenever your car goes into the stealers they automatically apply any updates and recalls. Particularly important for a brand new model. Everything from the central locking to the engine is computer controlled and as niggles and bugs pop up from being in service, new revisions of the software are released and passed on to the dealer network. If you service the car out of the dealer network you won't get these. Worth thinking about.

perhaps this Andrew fella offers "optional extras"?

Have I been misunderstood? I certainly wouldn't buy a GTi without a bona fide VW service history, so I wouldn't sell one either :smug:
My point is VW wanted £71 to recharge my air-con, when my Indy guy (ex-Audi master tech) will do it for £40 BUT, I've added another VW stamp in the book as well.
-
Well I took my car to main dealer just for a stamp. Anything else, I buy parts from Eurocarparts etc..and get my local friendly garage to fit them as main dealer labour rate is a lot higher!
Just to keep you guys up to date, I got a phone call from the stealers as my car EDT is around mid-late october (Just after my birthday). I mention about the service plan but they still insists their own one is better than the VW. I don't think I will pay them unless this get sorted out!
