how much do you think is a fair price to sell my rcd510? as i am going to upgrade to the rns510
-
How about a swap, for a set of mud flaps?
-
if you throw in a pack of polo mints then i will think about it
-
How about Tic Tacs?
RCD 510 worth at least £400 I would say. Check out ebay http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=rcd+510
-
interesting i might sell mine for 350quid then!!! that is a good amount towards upgrading to the rns 510
-
Best of luck selling it. Might be worth putting it in the classified part of the forum for a quick sale.
-
yeah will do, once i have sourced a rns510 i have been looking at http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/ as they supply and fit for 650 so if i sold mine for 350 then i only need to pay 300
plus i am getting fiscon hopefully in group buy and get them to fit it at the same time
-
How does that work with the coding?
I've just read another post about new owners not given a code for their stereo and the reply stating
"you don't need it as it uses something called "comfort coding" which recognises the immobiliser in the car which authorises the radio to start. If you disconnect the battery etc this coding is not lost"
How would that work in a new car?
-
This will sound like a very amateur question but what is the difference between the RNS510 and the RCD510?
Is the RNS510 just the code for the Sat-Nav unit?
-
RCD relates to radio compact disc system (i think) RNS relates to radio navigation system.
-

You get a code with the radio, if you change it into a different car you will need to input that code at least the first time you switch on after you have installed it. After that I'm not sure if the car permanantly recognises that unit or not. With the factory fit one it does permanantly remember that particular unit so no need for the code at all except if you move it to a different car.
-
Right that makes sense, however a few folk have commented they didn't get a code with their MK VI's obviously as the immobiliser part recognised it being original. I take it they just request a code from the dealer.
-
you should have a code in the handbook
-
I've not got mine yet  I was just going on some other folks input from another forum.
-
Someone has told me that in the radio instruction manual it says the code can only be requested on line on the VW system by your dealer!!
-
i have got a card in my manual with it on
-
Does anyone know if the RCD 510 displays the track/album/artist info from a connected iPod??
I know the RCD310 does as I tried it the dealers, the RCD 510 in a VW EOS I tried does not (Although it will display track/album/artist if using mp3 on the SD card or CD also CDs with text). Just wondering if the interface has been upgraded??
-
yes it does mate, well it does on mine anyway
-
i have got a card in my manual with it on
Cheers Hutch
-
p3asa our post counts are going up at the same rate although now i have posted this i am one ahead!! lol
-
That's funny you should say that cos I noticed it earlier
SNAP

wow thats a really good price! 650 is what.. about 50% of the cost of option? how can they do it so cheap?!
-
£650 is a bargain price and that includes fitting too.
I might do the same and upgrade my rcd510 when i get my car.
-
Not saying anything about the company but I've just noticed they don't list any mailing address and now only take cash / bankers draft / direct payment into account.
Could be totally legit at a fantastic price.

i will be going to their premises to get it installed so should ok
-
When are you getting it done? Do let us know how you get on.
For an extra 300 (after selling the rcd510) this is a tempting option.

yeah will do i am going to phone them and get booked in for the start of next month, i will have my fiscon bluetooth by then so will be able to get them to fit that at the same time
-
Someone over in uk-mkivs.net gave up on them as they got no reply from emails or telephoning.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on. That price is definitely a bargain and something I'd consider.
-
have been speaking to my brother (works for VW) about this and he says it is suspect as the dealers cant even get them that cheap and the fact the ask for cash is a bit dodgy
so i sent them an email- no reply
and phoned all three phone numbers on the website - no reply so i think i will give it a miss on the upside my bro has helped me source one for 800quid which was ordered into a dealers for someone who then decided not to have it so meaning i can get it cheap if i want
-
You will probably find that most of these units are re-furbed. Nothing wrong with that but there is obviously a reason why they are so much cheaper than the stealer.
I got a MFD2 (pre RNS510 sat nav) from ebay which was a refurb unit. It had the official stickers and everything saying it was a refurb and it was in perfect condition / works fine etc.
As long as you aren't expecting a brand new unit for the money you are paying...
-
Normally these things are too good to be true.
-
Hmm i paid £700 for mine 1 year ago.. im quite sure its a refurb or sourced directly from the manufacturers, who happen to be in the czech rep (where alot of the ebay sellers are from).
Its been in and out of my R and been fine. Its going in the mk6 gti next week hopefully too along with the fiscon kit. What more could you need??
It does everything it should and have recently upgraded the firmwear to the latest version B too. Absolute bargain for the money... and improves the cabin tenfold
Just make sure you buy from a reputable seller.. and can even get your local audio guy to fit it as its that easy :nerd:
-
Only thing that puts me off is that you have no come back when paying cash. They do offer a 3 month fitting warranty and a 12 month warranty on the unit itself, not sure if thats from them or the manufacturers warranty, and you dont normally get 1 year on refurb stuff do you ?
If I could pay using credit card I would and claim against them should anything go wrong, but I highly doubt you'd get your money back from these guys should you need to.
-
From memory when I read the FAQs these are not new units. I don't know where they can source so many though! How long has this model been out for? Given its the top model who would upgrade either?
Will wait and see what people's experiences are like with this first methinks.
-
Its pretty straightforward. If you're worried about warranty pay top dollar at the dealers.
If you're prepared to take a chance, pay a fraction of that for an ebay job. Can't have it both ways...
There are loads and loads of people like myself who have an ebay sourced unit and have no problems. Ask on here for trusted sellers.
As R32 says I believe almost all of them are units that were sent back to the OEM manufacturer as they had a fault, were repaired and sold on. VW wont supply you with a refurbed unit so they have to go somewhere. A lot of ebay sellers will give you 14 days to return them if you're not happy with the condition.
-
I could be on the lookout for a reasonably priced RCD510 soon

I'm after buyin an RSN510 off Ebay, got any trusted sellers? Thanks

How long did delivery take though mate? Seems he's in Lithuania
-
I can't remember, it was less than a week. I emailed him and asked for a tracking number, he told me at the point I ordered it how long it would take. A lot of them are in that area, I think this is becuase the factory that makes them is in Eastern Europe somewhere...
There are of course other sellers, some of them UK based if that makes you a bit happier, perhaps someone else can advise but I had no trouble whatsoever with that seller.
-
I've also tried phoning and emailing retrofits with no response.
I haven't ordered my car yet, but am going to soon - so I wanted to know if they supply without fitting - because they are too far away for me to consider their fitting! I have no problems getting my hands dirty and fitting it myself!
£1200 factory price v £650 (plus £300 back for my RCD510) sounds VERY tempting - but I want to make sure I got some form of warranty. Also - do these units all ship with the latest Firmware so they work with the on-screen climate control. Aparently updating the firmware is a bit of hit or miss, and can end up turning your unit into a very expensive paperweight if you're unlucky enough!!
The only other thing putting me off is having to tuck the GPS aerial away somewhere - rather than the OEM one which sits on the roof!
-

There was one for sale on here not so long back http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=120209.0
£350 seems resonable.
As for OEM retrofits, i've heard its a business run from someones house.
Can't vouch for that myself though.
My local car audio specialist wanted £1400 to supply and fit (RNS510) - that was also a recon unit
-
Ive been trying to get in touch with them for nearly a month now, sent numerous emails and rang loads of times but no joy. Ive just got a B version off Ebay for £520 including delivery and antenna, code and maps v4 on HDD. Should be here this week, cant wait. Anybody got any links to the latest software and maps v5 please? :smug:

Whats the difference between an A & B version... and is there a C version - or is that just the MFD2? Which seller did you get it at that price?
Here is a link to the latest FW update - I think there are older ones there too.
http://www.my-gti.com/1198/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-upgrade-to-version-2660-2662-2664-2666-2668
Maps can be purchased from VW
-
I think B has option for Bluetooth where as A doesn't and i think C has option for DAB but not 100% on those, got it from user dimon8. He has another but it's got a scratch on it, think he wants £450 for it. I believe A can be made into a B with a fw update so maybe soon B will be able to be revised to a C also with an update, ive been looking for ages for one and finally bit the bullet. £520 including delivery isn't bad and also somebody else on here has bought from him and said communication and delivery and product was spot on, thanks for the fw link. I know but i'm not paying over £100 for maps
Surely somebody will be able to lend a helping hand
-
there is now an new fw update to version C
-
Just looked - maps are available on the newsgroups.
I've been looking around and I think the main difference between A & B is that A has a matt black face, but B has a shiney black face round the buttons / scren, and has some silver bits on it too.
If you'e fitting it to a MK6, you need the newest FW to get the climate control to work on-screen I think.
-
there is now an new fw update to version C
Anychance of a link please???

I can't seem to find them pal

Just recieved my RNS510 after ordering it Sunday, looks immaculate. Its part number 1T0 035 680 B, HW: H11, SW: 1100 and was produced in May 2009. Gonna try fitting it today
Should be fun, i'll up some pictures later of the finished product :smug:
-
Aidy, can you post a link or PM me to where you got yours for £520 ?

Aidy, can you post a link or PM me to where you got yours for £520 ?
I got it off Ebay mate, seller id is Dimon8. Came perfectly packaged, looks brand new. Took me 15mins to fit, only problem now though is that some of my buttons on the MFSW have stopped working and also i don't get whats playing on my MFD anymore
Anybody know of a fix for this?
-

Might be wrong, but dont you need VCDS (VAGCOM) to enable some stuff ?
-
Some ppl said you do and some said you dont, guess you do though. Don't know anybody that has it, been to a few garages but no joy. My VW dealer want the car for the full day
Idiots, i can't leave it as i'm at work
-
I just got mine fitted about an hour or so ago and found the same thing
Volume is the only button that now works. would be nice if someone with vagcom could take a look

I might just sit tight until i get the fiscon bluetooth kit :undecided:

Thats what i was thinking but don't think i'll be getting it anytime soon now, it just annoys me really more thatn anything ha its not a major problem. How much you pay for you'r RNS510 pal?

i paid £700 iirc. But that was over a year ago I think now... so a great investment non the less
Will be updating it to version c too later  :nerd:
-
C version, i'm intreged. Tell me more :lipsrsealed:
-
Will be updating it to version c too later  :nerd:
I'd be curious to see if this makes the unit work with all the steering controls?
Does it work with the climate control just now?

yes all the climate stuff comes up on the screen. works quite well too... takes a little getting used to though.
-
So with the update your climate control and steering controls work perfectly now?
-
So with the update your climate control and steering controls work perfectly now?
All the climate control settings work on the screen. The mfsw volume control works fine, but the option to change tracks etc does not.
Also the audio track names that are displayed on the mfd are no longer there, but i imagine that is linked to not being able to change tracks from the mfsw.
-
Not good... I wonder if VagCom will sort this out?
I'm still in 2 minds whether to retrofit or go for the factory option. A big saving on the retrofit, plus I can sell on the RCD510 afterward - but at least the factory one would work properly.
Is it worth the extra £600 (plus the £300 I'd get back from the RCD)?! I doubt it!!
-
Its upto you how you go about it, at the end of the day its your decison and you should do whatever you feel happy with. I have the same problem as R32UK, its not a major problem and if vagcom wont sort it i'd be able to live with it knowing i only spent a fraction of the 2grand VW would of charged.
-
The RCD510 is very nice. I had it on my Eos and it comes as standard on the GTI here in France. However, I think if I was planning to go down the retro-fit route, I would probably go the whole hog and get the RNS510.

You would be getting an RNS510 for the cost of a £300 upgrade, no matter what way you look at it, that is worth it a million times over.
-
Been told that the RNS510 just needs coding to your car and then all will be fine, just need find somewhere that uses Vag Com.... Nightmare around my end, nobody uses it

Yeah I thought something like that was the case which is why i mentioned it. I tried to start a thread for this very reason for helping each other out in cases like this but i dont think many know what vcds is never mind own it so the thread died away. Good luck tracking someone with it down. Or why dont you buy it ?

I wouldn't even know how to use it tbh mate and i doubt i'd ever use it again after this one time, out of curiosity how much is it?
-
Ive just rang VW Dutton Forshaw in Preston because it's by where i work so i could of nipped in there and got it done, explained to the lady my problem with that my stereo needs coding so i can get full functionality of my MFSW and MFD. She said they'd need it for 5hours at least and the charge for labour will be £75plus VAT, needless to say i told them what they can do with that labour charge. Robbing gits, how cheeky is that? Makes me

I'm the same buddy, total novice. Should cost around £200-£250 from the US (excluding any possible customs and import charges) And if you do decide to buy, the mk6 needs the CAN interface. So HEX-USB+CAN Interface would be ideal.

The UK company on the official Ross-tech distributer list is Gendan.
They supply it for £200 with free postage.

If the problem can be fixed by VagCom, then I'd happily pay out the £200... as it would still be much cheaper than the factory fit options!!

Cool, never knew about that.
Maybe it might be an option for us mk6'ers, that we could get say 20 of us, all chip in £10 each and buy it. Then we just send to whoever needs it.

Noooo - nothing sinister like that! :embarassed:
Someone might have gone away on holiday or business or sommat, or they might not have finished with it themselves, or they might have mislaid it, or maybe they just lazy and CBA to pop it in a jiffy bag and pop in a post box. Or it might even get stollen from their car or garage?
If you have intentions of keeping your dub for a few years, then getting your own vag-com lead for 200 notes is definately a worthwhile investment. Use it a few times yourself, or help out fellow dubbers for a few beer tokens, and it will soon pay for itself. And you can always sell it later. :afro:

Found a garage to code the RNS510 to my car, getting it done sat'day morning for £25. That will do me for now and as soon as i can i'll purchase my own most definately, still shocked VW wanted my car for half a day at £75plus VAT per hour... Outragous
