I read that 195/40/17 wheels will fit on a mk3 golf but do u need coilovers
or will they fit on normal lowered shocks/springs?
I dont think the car is lowered too much :undecided:
been looking for some 4x100 second hand 16 inch but not too many about i like..

Yes will fit, I ran 7x17 (et35) with 205/40/17's on coilovers however would also be fine with lowered set up if needed.

Thanks...
Its a 1.8 cabrio so no plastic arches to worry about..no idea how low it currently is

Even better, I had to trim the metal lip a fraction on mine on the rear.

mmm..just noticed that when i did a google image search :undecided:

Mine in me sig is lowered on 40mm springs & shocks with 17's on

I'd recommend going lower than 40mm if you're putting 17's on. My first Mk3 was 60mm front and 40mm rear and it still looked like a Land Rover lol!
I put coilovers on my second Mk3, did a few arch mods and just kept winding it down until it started to rub, then raised it up about 5mm all round
