Title: Running problems on my ABF...........
Post by: metaleg on 31 August 2009, 17:13
Can anyone help, my car is running like a pile of the finest at the moment. I've started at the cheap end of diagnosing things:

Clean TB
Changed Relay 30 and 167
Reset the ECU

It hessitates even when cold.

Can you help with the photos below? The pipe in my fingers doesn't go anywhere, any ideas?

in the above photo is the MAF one of the items near the air box?

Cheers in advance

On mels polo there is one of those pipes that goes from the air box, but i cant remember where it went, i just put it back on the air box when refiting.

And the maf is what the plug is plugging into on the pipe after the airbox.

Cheers, you just put it back on the air box? So it just goes no where?

I'm trying to eliminate all possible causes.

No. I meant that i know it comes from the air box, but im not sure where the other end should be. But doubt its anything to do with your running problems if honest.

Ok thanks

Is it just a rough idle? Or does it not pull that well? Do the revs drop bellow idle level when you slow down or dip the clutch? Is it ok when warm/cold.

Is it all the time, or some of the time?

Tends to be all the time, goes well when i rev it hard. The revs have never been below 900

I hope not, is that banter against the 16v community?

No.

Just you say it idles ok, and doesnt go till you rev it.

So i cant understand what its not doing? lol.

Oh ok at low revs it hesitates alot. i unplugged the maf sensor and it went ok foa while then whilst it was unplugged it was hesitating again.

It could be a maf problem tbh. A lot of people have had these issues. I know you have already cleaned out the TB but did you clean you the breather hoses that go down the block? And also did you clean out the maf itself. Also did you get the other side of the butterfly in the throttlebody?

Would also check the breathers for splits.
