Title: clipper engine
Post by: mk2man1 on 31 August 2009, 16:24: Hi all im normally a mk2 poster but my wife has fell in love with a black clipper convertible.It has got a seized engine and i wondered if the engine out my 8v k jet would go straight in.Im going to 20v turbo it over the winter if all goes well so i could stick the k jet in for her and she gets her first mk1 and i get one more vw to the collection.
I dont mind buying an engine there are a few on ebay but i know the history of mine.

Post by: deanpompey on 31 August 2009, 17:06: yes mate the 8v lump will go straight in using the mk1 mounts, easy as you like. you will need to use the mk1 downpipe, as the mk2 one wont clear the bulkhead. apart from that there should be no problems at all.

if the clipper was a carb, you'll obviously need to wire in the k jet ecu, and fit a gti fuel pump system!

or, block the injector holes up, and fit a weber 32/44 carb. some people will say that doesnt make sense, but my mk2 i sold a few days ago was a 1.8 carb running gti head,cam manifolds and distributor, full stainless, k&n filter etc and could EAT my mates 8v kjet gti.

makes it a very simple swap :)

Post by: rubjonny on 01 September 2009, 10:43: the engines are 99% the same anyway, only difference is if the stock engine was a carb it'll have an extra coolant hole on the back of the head. if you're running a webber then this isnt a problem, just fit the carby inlet and block the injector holes up somehow. (leave the injectors in, or remove the inserts and drop coins in and refit, or fit 4x gearbox drain/fill plugs)

Gearbox drain plugs are a better bet
