Hi All
Very happy to say I have just got a Mk5. Blown away by the car in stardard trim and setup, except...
The audio is woeful :sad: Very Sad
I am a mature driver (Also sad to say the wrong end of 30's) so I would just like some simple advice on how to improve the situation without mega spends. Not looking to do anything too fancy.
I think the audio is the very basic one no MP3 or anything and the sound is very tinny.
I have been looking at the WD6050 Wayfinder I think. Reading mixed reviews but overall it winning me over. Especially the fact it runs Windows CE
Will it also be necessary to upgrade any of the speakers? Any suggestions too...

I in the same boat (all aspects of your story!LOL!!) - looked at the waywell thing and I'm still not convinced. I'm after something with a bit more Ipod control, especially now I've got an iphone with TomTom.
I'm looking at the Pioneer 4100DVD - about the same price as the Waywell, but no satnav. Not quite as OEM-looking, but a better-sounding unit from the off.
Speakers, well, it's a minefield.
I'm going for some Focals (had them in my Scoob), nothing too mad. I've also got a 12" sub which will go in my wheelarch setup :wink:
In all fairness, the weak point isn't the OEM speakers, it's the rubbish Head Unit......
I'm going to change the unit first and see how it sounds....

I have an iPhone too and using the sat nav on it at the moment. Not a perfect solution but better than nowt.

Sounds like y'all have the rcd 300 or 500. They are rubbish. The standard speakers are decent with a good head unit so unless you're really into it I would just leave them standard. Of course after market is better but I'd start with the head unit and see what you think then.
I upgraded to a MFD2 which is the (older) OEM satnav and the sound quality is much much improved over the rcd300 I had and I can now listen to high volumes without distortion. You can pick these up from ebay for about £250-£300. The sat nav element isn't great (a tom tom is better) but is looks a hell of a lot better and it is perfectly functional if not cutting edge.
Or better still go for the newer OEM sat nav the RNS510 - touch screen, 30gb internal HD, SD slot and a much much better sat nav system. They go for £600-£800 on ebay. All are plug and play.
