Title: Trying to fit a Pioneer head unit - do I need an adaptor?

I'm trying to fit a Pioneer DEH-P77MP in place of a Pioneer DEH-P8400MP bit it appears they have slightly different connections, I dont really understand why.

that first picture is not the cars plug that is a loom from i take it your old pioneer unit
the 77mp needs a different loom it looks like you need autoleads part number PC3-426 this is an aftermarket replacement designed specifically for your 77mp

try pulling the wires further out of the hole, there should be another two sockets, these are your iso sockets (if they are still there). you need to start with them and the loom supplied with your new head unit (if there was one).
