Title: Delivery times
Post by: GTaye on 29 August 2009, 17:30
Article in Guardian money today reckons that delivery times on German cars are particularly long...up to 6 months on Golfs, 1.4TSi mentioned in particular.  It reckons that the scrappage deals across Europe and the reduced production due to the downturn means chronic short supply with a lot of dealers having already sold all their 2009 allocations...glad I'm getting mine on Tuesday and opted for one already in the system.

Mine took 9 weeks for a car that I spec'd.  Similar time as the mk5 gti I spec'd which was 8 weeks, 3 years ago.  The scrappage scheme / reduced production has'nt affected me

It's the (great) 1.4 TSI. It goes into a lot of VWs, SEATs and Skodas they can't keep up with demand. Anything with that engine comes next year.

As for the rest - I don't think you would have a problem with a GTI or GTD. 12 weeks delivery seems a fairly secure bet. There will be dealers with low allocation remaining for the rest of this year but I'm sure there are those with spare capacity.

I know this has been asked many times before but i forgot. How long does it take from the dealer putting a car onto the ordering system does it take for them to get a build week back from VW?

Last time I checked, VW Germany updated their system twice a week - so a max of a week, I'd have thought.

Took longer than that for me.  The first time I asked them, and they checked the system, they said there was no build week entered against my car.  I checked with them a week later and they said the build week had been entered at week 35.

I can't remember now how long that was from ordering, but I did record it somewhere in another thread.  The dealer said I could change my spec until the car was showing in the system, and that would probably be two or three weeks from actually ordering.

I think you are getting confused between the order being officially (but provisionally) accepted by Volkswagen Germany - which should be within a week of a UK dealer entering it on their computer.  And then there is a further 'build confirmed' phase, when the actual parts and components of the car start their 'journey' along the production line.

Yes, probably.  It was certainly on the system the first time I asked them to check, it just didn't have a build week.
