Title: MK3 1995 Golf 1.8 Driver cutting out.
Post by: Bassman Rob on 29 August 2009, 07:20
Just joined this site so go easy on me!

Right, wifes Mk3 Golf Driver 1.8 single point injection keeps either cutting out or when stationary for a bit after a drive cannot start.

If you leave the car for 10 minutes, it will then start and no apprarent problems. Car has done 140k miles.

This problem happens two to three times a week. My wife does a lot of miles and once the car cut out on a motorway which is a bit dangerous I think.

So far:

Changed Ignition Transformer. (Saw spark grounding when wife started her up. Tranny insulation was cracked. When I got the unit removed I wish I just filled the cracks with Hot melt glue now!)
Swapped spark leads with known good and no difference.
Changed dizzy cap and rotor arm. (Sooty as hell)
Feul housing thingy and gasket on injection unit changed (Garage did this recently but to no avail.)
Battery in good order.

Thinking relays now and general fuse box clean up. Any pointers people can give me with this? Common faults etc?

Does this car have a crank sensor? If so where? Any other help with this greatly appreciated. thanks, Rob.
