Hey people, hit an all time low with the valver now. basically the mechanic thinks the engine may have gone due to low compression and the only way to find out properly is to get the lump stripped and thoroughly checked over or to chuck a new one in. but i dont have the funds to do any of that now. ideally id like to break it but dont have the time or space so would like to know how much the whole thing is worth.
Its a 1996 P in black, done around 116k, interior is mint condition no rips or holes. bodywork has small amounts of rust nothing noticeable though.new abs pump & sensors. all service parts replaced. got a folder load of receipts and history with V5 also taxed till end of november and mot'd till end of january. modifications include springs & shocks (lowered about 30mm), a custom backbox and a k & n induction.
what do you think?

Knackered 16v? Not a huge amount unfortunately. If someone were looking for a car to put an engine in you might get 4-500 quid?
-
anyone interested?

£50....

will pretty much be worthless heres proof http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=126757.0

If it is tidy, £200 to £250 tops.

Yea the best thing about a 16 valve mk3 is the engine
-
it not unknown for me to buy these just for the engine buy if it's knackerd it's proabaly not worth the fuel to collect it, sorry
if your close tho i may grab it if it's cheep enough but iits only really worth an ecu and engine loom to me
-
Y'ouch that sucks dude... Sorry to hear that man!
I'm after a project, so may be interested if you are local-ish for £250?
I know the offer is horrible dude, but that's honestly what it's worth...

Does it drive or is it completly capoot?
Is it a three door and Black magic?

its so damn frustrating because iv only had the car since may, i bought it off a fellow forum member as well. such a disappointment as these problems came out the blue. its the flat black colour and a 5 door. doesn't drive at all, ticks over but wont stay on (as if the battery is flat or something). ill let you all know by next week whats definately happening. cheers

I'd exhaust all possiblities before you decide to punt it.
It's a downer it's happened, but look upon it as an oppertunity to expand your mechanical knowledge
If it's an engine you can get them reasonably cheaply. Plus the likes of Rubjohnny and danny_p are mines of useful info.
Best of luck with it.

Id keep it and either spend the money repairing it yourself or drop a new engine in... ive seen engines for valvers going for like 80 quid on here.. i think thats the better option...

I agree, even on ebay 16v engines go for peanuts.

I was offered a 16v complete the other month for £200, if you like the car you might as well fix it, bits are mega cheap and your time is free

to be fair i dont have the time or patience to search for an engine, luckily iv managed to get a spare runabout for work use but iv got to give it back in the next week or so, so cant afford to be car-less. like someone said, im looking at all possibilities first, if to no avail, im going to have to take it off my hands. would be an extremely cheap project for someone as the gearbox, ecu, brakes etc. are all in in top working order and if anyone can find an engine for under 200, happy days. like i said the car still has tax and mot so cant be completely worthless. i just have the worst of luck at times
