i've noticed a lot of people saying 'its faster', 'better handling' etc etc - was just wondering is this because you have come from a slower car to the gti or did you have ed30 for eg? basically, i would like a direct comparison ie from a mk5 to a mk6 gti; just out of interest as want to know before mine comes next week!

Eos TDI. Bought new last summer, but hardly used (5000 miles on the clock when I sold it in May for only £500 less than I had paid for it ;)) Really dull to drive and the drop top is completely unusable above about 30mph cos of the wind noise. The GTI is so much nicer :)

Black metallic mk 5 GTI to a errr....a black metallic mk 6 GTI. The new one has 18s and leather so that makes it instantly nicer

mk5 gti to mk6 gti

astra vxr nurburgring to mk6 gti

astra vxr nurburgring to mk6 gti
in this instance i think the gti may lose lol
so you chaps who have also had mk5 gti's, have you taken delivery? comparisons?
-
See pic below
In all honesty I havent driven the MK6 enough to really compare it to the MK5 R32 (yet)... but its going to be a very hard act to follow :lipsrsealed:

I can honestly say my Mk6 will be slower, worse handling, sound worse, and be less involving/exciting to drive than my last car.
But then again, that is/was a Porsche 996 C4S.
However, the Golf won't cost a small fortune to run/insure/warranty/tax/service...it won't break down nearly as much, it won't leak fluids as much and it will have a much better interior.
I will also be able to use it without fear of shunters reporting me for anything they can think of...
I may occasionally get let out at a junction...
I'll be able to park it in Hotel/Pub car parks with little fear of vandalism...
I'll actually be able to park it - as it it will actually get into car parks!
Swings and roundabouts...

I may have mentioned this before , but I'm changing from a Peugeot 306 GTi-6.
I bought the car at the beginning of 1998, with the Golf Mk III as the main rival in the choosing stakes. I thought the Peugeot was better value for money at the time.
It's been a great car and it will break my heart to see it go for scrap , but it's done close to 120,000 miles and it has a few problems which are simply uneconomic to repair. It also sounds like an old, clapped-out car when the engine is idling. Mind you, it still starts first turn of the key, and its bodywork is so good a friend recently asked me if it had been resprayed. (It had a new bonnet last year, which I might not have bothered with if I'd realised it was headed for the scrappage deal, but then I didn't know that last June.) Its leather seats are also looking extremely good. And it pulls like a train.
However, it's time to move on, and the scrappage deal made up my mind for me. I always thought I'd sell it on to a boy racer who'd get some more fun out of it, but I can't see a boy racer giving me what the government are prepared to give me. I doubt if I'd get £500 for it on the open market.
It's like having an elderly pet put down.
But I'm really looking forward to comparing it to the Golf! Soon!
Rolfe.

Coming from a Scirocco 2.0TSI.
Golf is quicker, sharper, better built, easier to live with and more prestigious IMO.

isn't it near enough the same car?
My 4 year old subaru Impreza WRX is being sold tomorrow (to a dealer), took it out for a drive to use up the excess fuel earlier tonight- i thought hire cars were meant to be the fastest cars on the road- not this time- I can still smell the clutch on my clothes! did a fair few 0-60s and up and down a few nice local roads [all within the speed limit of course...]
i've got a couple of months of driving the wife's mini cooper before the gti arrives, so hopefully i'll forget how fast the subaru was.
looking forward to the little luxuries - mostly DSG and leather, but also the sunroof, xenons, ipod connection, and not having to parallel park myself anymore!

I have to agree that the rocco and mk6 are miles apart in terms of driving. I didnt like the rocco at all. Loved the mk6.

That might be the case mate but they are totally different cars. Doesn't a TT share the same running gear as an A3?
