Title: GTI Insurance + Business Use =?
Post by: Eccie on 26 August 2009, 16:28
Hi folks, I have read a number of articles on insurance on here, with recommendations for e.g. Greenlight & Adrian Flux etc

I wanted to hear from any members who have business use included on their policy, i.e. who offers it? (Currently with Zurich, renewal Oct)

I am trying to cut down the number of calls i have to make; both my wife and I have this cover on are main cars and as a named driver on the others - so we can swap cars if and when its needed, that way i get to drive the GTI more  (greenlight & adrian flux can't do this)

Any help or info appreciated

Zurich are seriously shyte!  Twice in the past I needed to make a claim, both for fully non-fault accidents (independent witnesses and police reports both times confirming) - and both times, they SERIOUSLY fcuked me around.   Avoid at all costs.

I'm with Zurich and can't fault them at all

i have business use included on my policy as i'm sometimes required to use my own car to attend meetings etc

thankfully haven't had to make a claim so can't comment on that side although i have my home & contents insurance with them too and they've bene ok to deal with

does help my old man is an insurance broker though so he shops around for the best deals and pushes thme for extra discount  :smug:

Avoid Admiral. They are really cheap, but rape you if you need to claim.

Avoid Admiral. They are really cheap, but rape you if you need to claim.

....and if you need to change the slightest thing regarding your policy.

They are possibly the worst insurance company i have ever dealt with but they are the cheapest so its to be expected.

I am with Privilege and they seem very good. Not needed to claim yet tho.....

Thanks for all the helpful info.

Just to clarify matters Greenlight will offer business use for the policy holder (wife) on the GTI, but won’t offer business use cover for the named driver (me) and won’t offer me cover on the Audi (non performance car) (maybe I should tune it )

I am waiting for my renewal premiums on both cars (c£500) each and then will have to do some ringing around; I will let you all know what unfolds.

I guess it would be a real headache if the GTI was modified :undecided:

I currently have my Wife's 58-Reg ED30 insured with Norwich Union (Aviva) for approx. £450 including business use.

...but, I have my 07-Reg Audi RS4 insured with More Than for an unbelievable £380 - Which also includes business use (that I don't even need)!

Just renewed the insurance on my Wife's ED30......It's like torture!

I finally got a very reasonable on-line quote of £315 (inc. Business use)......but, when I phoned to confirm the details, I found that they wanted a list of ALL the optional extras that are fitted.

It can be very difficult to convey what I mean when I say it's got a Multi-function Steering Wheel, a Highline Computer and a Sound Pack!

Basically, it's ended-up costing me another £18 to cover these extra 'modifications'.

This must mean that in the eyes of an insurance company all VWs, Audis, BMWs etc are modified ......because, I've never found one that hasn't had something ticked on the options list!

Apparently, even mud-flaps can be considered a bodywork modification. I'm glad that VW don't supply any for the ED30!

With directline.

Business cover was free - apparently, they don't charge for it!

Quick update - renewal came through at £425 £200xs full NCD (protecetd) legal cover + hire car (if needed) + business use for main driver + named driver.

Got the best alternative through Chris Knott & Highway 10% saving - existing insurer agreed same reduction, so I'm happy.

But full marks to the folks at Chris Knott who almost got my business, they weren't as good with the quote on our other car Audi A4 (2 cars for renewal in Oct )
