I recentley accuired a mk3 golf 1400 petrol and would like to do it up as a project. but want to know if i can put a gti engine in it without serious modification? thanks. Jim

Yes but you need to change everything, it is a lot of work.

unless the shell in the 1.4 is 110% rust and rot free and has absolutely no dings or dents or any other imperfections, aka, new, or it has had £1000s put towards it then you are better off just buying a gti and starting from there.
-
or you could fit a 1.8t unit :lipsrsealed:
-
You would need to uprate the brakes and suspension.
-
buy a GTI
-
The answer to your question is NO!
It involves a serious amount of work!
-
buy a GTI

+2
Too much money to mod a 1.4.

Until it's MOTed, insured and taxed and actually being driven about it's not done.
IMO he's just getting to the tough part - he is entering the world of Pareto's Law.

Wtf is Pareto's Law. :undecided:

it basically means that the majority of the problems that will be encountered will be in the last part of the install.
