i am looking to tidy up my install and was wondering what size sub would be best for the wheel arch box i plan to build would be?..
i know a 15 would be rediculous but theyre nice on the lows..
im stuck in choice between a 12" and a 10" really.. i have had a twin 10" bandpass for the past 6 months and it kicks nicely but its not very practical when going shopping or putting the pram in the boot :undecided: ....
i already have a couple of 10" subs to play with but i have usually been happy with 12s in the past and my taste of music is changing too.. im not really into the clubby type of music anymore and like more of the indie type of stuff if you get me?.
will a 12 be too big for this type of box or do you think i would be better off sticking with a 10?.

a 12" is a good all rounder and will fit fine
heres a couple of pics of one i made for a customer

can anyone recommend a sub for about 50-60 quid?... im looking for SQ more than anything.

I'll be honest i've got a new 12" powerplant in a sealed box i'm not using. You can have a listen to it see how it sounds if you want.
See if you like it!

where is the village pond to mate?, perhaps i could take a drive lol..
on a serious note, if youre not too far away and the price is right then i might take it off you!.

I live in abingdon, but could travel for 20mins or so.
£40 & it's yours with box.
It's in a sealed 1.25cu ft box made from 18mm mdf, screwed & pu glued.
I had 2 of these running off 1.5k and the wanged.
Not this one obviously.

youre quite a distance away mate..
thanks though..

will be going for a JBL GT5 tomorrow, affordable and i have heared good things about them for the price so, thats what i am going for. :lipsrsealed:

Nout wrong with that bud. They can take descent amount of power too. Very underated
How much rms you got on tap?
-
:undecided: eerm, i bought a vibe slick s12 instead.. :undecided:
looks nicer anyway..lol any ideas what size box it should have?. i think i have 200 worms to play with..
just gotta get this arch box finished now.. god, it takes some matting and resin dont it?...
-
oh yeah, and how many layers of this FG matting should i use? does it have any acoustic properties or is it just the MDF baffle at the front that does all that work?.
i know it shouldnt have any air leaks which i am confident about. ive done loads of this FG stuff before, just not in audio.
-
If its just glassfibre other than the front panel I would use 3 layers.
Plus think about lining it with dynamat.
-
christ this is becoming expensive....

No such thing as a free meal!
Where you getting your gear from jamie? I used a couple of those Halfords large repair kits.
-
cfsnet.co.uk should see you right.
You can pick which thickness of matting you want. Ideally I would say 600g.
Sound deaden the wheel well, but I wouldn't worry about sound deadening the enclosure. Better off putting an extra layer of fiberglass on it. You don't want any flex at all in the box so if it looks a bit flimsy do another layer.

i used a local motor factors which has proven to be quite wallet damaging. they sell the same kits as halfords. i used two of those kits and bought and extra square of matting metre instead of buying another kit. the box now seems quite rigid, i have also lined it with paper mache (with PVA not wallpaper paste).
all i have to do now is fit the baffle, i got some chip board lying about which i could use or should i spend that extra cash and use MDF?.
also wheres the best place to get box carpet?.. want it to match the boot the best i can..
-
MDF is a bit denser than chipboard. Shame you aint closer as have a few pieces of MDF lying around!
I used PVA/papier mache to get the shape of mine. Ended up ripping all of it off in the end!
How are you fixing the enclosure to the car? I used the 3 self tapping holes.
-
im gonna use velcro or simular..
i dont want to have to unscrew it everytime i take it out.
its a good fit so shouldmt fly about too much... fingers crossed anyway..

Never taken mine out!
