Hey there people :) i recently purchased this little project :D
(http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/harney_01/mk2.jpg)
i'm not really sure what i want to do with it? haha
i have every bit with it to make it a complete car though :) engine, interior, wiring etc
but i'm rather stumped i have a mk1 gti cabby but that has a k jet engine and this is a digifant and i'm not to sure on the differences and what can be done to make it more powerful??? any help would be welcome :D
oh and its an F reg big bumper model if that helps lol
thanks muchly :)

Welcome to the site, interesting project.

Welcome to the site.
Suppose you would need to decide what you want from the car ie. daily, track slag, concours, ICE etc
What's your budget and can you do the majority of the work yourself or can your mates with beer bribery?
What will insurance be like? There lot's of different factors needin to be taken into consideration before starting.
Personally as it's already stripped out I'd go track slag an ABF, perspex windows, buckets, wide-track, white compomotive rims, respray red and proper 'cage.
Then get out and enjoy it as much as possible.
Pretty blank canvas though.
-
i looked into perspex windows. how much lighter are they and how much should i expect to pay for them
-
well there isn't really a budget because i'm in no rush to get it done if i'm honest, i already have 2 other golfs as it is but it was so cheap and in such good condition i just couldn't turn it down!
well my idea's where rat style? but with a nice powerlant but as i've come to understand rat is all about slow and low so i dunno if thats a no no lol but i don't really wanna take it down the concourse route because i become quite obsessive and if i'm honest i want somethin reletively fast but not a track car because i like comfort and have never even seen a track unless you count the tv! lol
what i was really thinking was matte orange but smoothing the bay and have that balck with a g60 lump? but thats all the ideas i got at the moment if i'm honest
thanks

Orange with a black G60 engine. Sounds good, little Dukes of Hazzard but I was always a fan of the "General"
Only limiting factor with this type of project is your imagination/skills/budget...
-
well i'm now debating a VR6 engine but who know's really i change my mind to often lol
another option is my old man's mate races mk2's and said he'd be more than happy to "racing" tune my standard 1800cc digifant engine so i may stick with a bit of OEM but like i say i'll probably get up tomorrow and change my mind again!
-
i think you need to fit a 1.3 find a fibreglass body kit and fit it at least 4 exhausts 10 subs and amps and a cosworth whaletail oh and some steels with 155x75x13 tyres
-
have a look round the site as a few peeps have done both to their cars (tuned & VR'd) dare i through a spanner in the works and say have you thought about a 20vt conversion? :lipsrsealed:
welcome aswell!
-
well i'm more interested in the vr6 for the simple fact its a v6 and they sound aesome i think :) the only thing is i have absolutly no idea where to begin!!! is it expensive job if i fit it myself? or am i asking the wrong people? no offence of course lol!
-
if its vr6 your going have a look on mk2vr6.com
-
cheers pal seems like an awful lot of work but i dont think im gonna get in a mag with a standard 8v lol!!! i was considering a G60 does anybody know if this easier?
-
Dunno, if you want a mag feature you may wish to check out edition38. Not to say there aren't mag worthy cars on this site, I just think this site is slightly less "scene points" orientated.
Vr6 swap is relatively straight forward, especially if you use the mk3 golf setup/widetrack/donor car.
However as has been discussed countless times is that the vr is heavier and thus upsets the handling in a light shell. As to whether it does or not is still conjecture.
G60 swap would use same mounting points but would require S/c etc assuming it's an 8v gti to begin with. But try finding a g60 motor for sensible money...
1.8t would get you most bang for £ and 300bhp relatively cheaply.
All would need upgraded brakes etc.
However if you want a mag feature my advice would be to look around the site and others get some ideas, let your imagination and ingenuity run wild and build something for yourself that you will enjoy owning and driving, rather than something that will impress other people that perhaps you'll only meet once.
just my 3p worth...
... Although a passat Turbo'd R36 and 4x4 drivetrain would get you a feature for sure. Or fit a W12 and supercharge it
-
cheers for the advice pal :) well i know you have to have quite alot of bits from a mk just to mae it work but luckily i have my fingers in quite a few pies so i may be able to get it easier than i thought, but things like suspension and brakes etc will they bolt straight on? and like the pedal box i dunno if i confident about cutting the bulkhead!!! but i guess i'll have to find someone who is ;) anyway as soon as i've done some more to the car i'll get pics up which hopefully won't be long :D
-
well i've gone against my first ideas and ordered a 20v T today which should be here friday, gear box is on its way today from Diamond Hell (thank you bud :D ) i've reapired the rust on the shell and will take photos tomorrow and started to clean up the seats which i'll also take pictures of this week ;)
cheers for reading :D

i almost vomitted when i read the link :) lol that looks very good and rather similar to mine :) should be fun just need to sell my mk1 Cabby now.............
-
I think you should make it look completely standard, and proper mint, but drop a decent lump in to it. ABF, or if you want some speed still 1.8T? then you would have a well reliable daily, that is fast, comfortable, and looks really nice.
-
well it's now gonna stay tornado red with completely standard gti big bumpers and arches etc and standard interior, all that wll be different is a nice set of wheels and a 20v T under the bonnet.......... very nice if i say so myself :)
-
sounds good, i still think you should keep it standard with some original spec wheels. i suppose some wont fit if youve got 288mm brakes on tho? p-slots, RA's, or some nice steelies? :D
-
nooooo thats too standard i think i'll have me some borbets or something :) lol
-
haha, fair enough.
How many totally standard looking mint mk2s do you see driving around though?
-
well where i live i haven't seen one but my mk1 cab is like that and i don't want to do it again lol just somethin that looks good and thats fast :)
-
can't fit 280's or 288's behind P slots
I still fancy azev A's in 16x9 flavour... timeless
-
its gonna have to be 16x9 borbets me reckon lol :) big fan of those wheels...........
