Title: Gas Warning Lamp ON :-(
Post by: No Golf Clubs at all on 23 August 2009, 18:44
Today the exhaust gas warning lamp lit up.  I have never had any issues at all there was no misfiring, no noise and no loss of performance or power.

I read it could be the lambda sensor.... Is this a biggie? I'm out of warranty.

Quick trip to my local Indy tomorrow for me then....

I guess at least its a hard fault, so they should be able to diagnose the issue quickly.

someone mentioned in a previous post that they had a fuse go related to one of the fans and that fixed it....would anyone know the potential fuse? are these fuses in the engine bay or in the car? I notice that the large fan is operational and the small one wasn't, so I am guessing that the fuse wherever it is is not blown.

Ok a quick trip to the indy, he hooked up vcds and noticed an alarm code there.  Incorrect air mix or something or other related to a pcv solenoid?....anyhoo.....apparently it can come on for a number of other issues..

He noted the fault, and cleared the condition. We will monitor and book in, the tech reckons whatever it is that it should be a simple fix and not expensive.

Deffo nothing to do with the fans.

I did notice that my air intake top cover was slightly off...wonder if this had something to do with it.  We snapped it back on, though I am not sure if it will stay there.... Will keep ya all posted just in case the same ever happens to you.

A quick check with an INDY...a hook up to a laptop and some diagnostics and in 5 mins we have a plan...so much better than booking into Arnold Clark and getting charged £70 to have a look! P'Ah!

Gas Warning Lamp ON :-(  - stop farting in the car then!

But serious mode resuming - have you used any 'dodgy' fuel recently?  Or has the car been hit hard underneath - from taking a speed bump too fast or sommat similar?

Usually, this warning lamp can sometimes come on spuriously, and simply clearing any legacy codes will keep it off.

No hit from underneath, but coincidently I did stick in some Tesco 99 the day before....hmmm, never had any issues with Tescos finest before.

anyhoo, tis all clear now so, fingers crossed it remains good.

 if a light came on every time I farted, the dash would look like a council house at christmas...

Yes I did top class blokes as usual, can't recommend highly enough. You know the booking in crap you get with Arnold and Verve.... None of that for a quick check, doubt I'll ever go back to a main stealer (save to retain warranty).

+1... I had a Gas Lamp Warning on last week and Andy at 'A For Audi' spent three days with a laptop and stripping bits off my car to find out - in his words - 'what the fcuk is wrong with it'.

Can't speak highly enough of them.

Sooo...am I being thick here? You too had your car into A4audi with the gas warning lamp on, last week?

Ok...so what did they find wrong with it in the end? or was it No Fault Found? and a reset?

My bad... not good description! Arnold diagnosed a dodgy PCV, which was totally dismissed by 'A4A' as total ball0cks. Throttle body sensor needed.

I was merely supporting your recommendation of 'A for Audi' to another poster and also telling the boy how to re-set service meter  :nerd:
