im doing the gearbox and clutch on a mk3 gti 8v but im not sure the best way to get the shafts out the box.im not a begginner, i work on all my own cars just i never done a golf before i looked at it n its lookin like taking the end nut off and then the 6 bolts on the gearbox hub, if this is the best way or theres any other way can you please let me know :) thanks. hiiii 5

undo the spline bolts on the gearbox end and the hub nut on the, errm hub end.A few taps and the shaft should pop out.Good luck mate. :smiley:

yeah i sorted the shafts but the replacement gearbox i bought didnt have the gearbox hubs so im gonna have to split the gbox now and put my old gbox hubs in the new 1 :( how do i split the bell housing from the main gearbox (oviously i already undone then surrounding 13 mm nuts but i just cant get the box to split

If you mean the drive flanges, they are held in with a circlip, and sometimes a bolt as well.
I can't remember which for the mk3.

I think they are just a circlip tbh...I dont think theres any need to undo the hubnut either, i'm pretty sure i just gave it a good pull...
