Have a std 1.8t 150(arz) seems fine round about the town, sounds great ,drives great until you want to go over 3500 then its as flat as a witches T** and ideas? no weird noises from engine ,turbo etc .

cheers

no engine light on i take it? probably won't be limp mode then unless someone has removed the engine management light (not unheard of)

jack the car up and stick your head under the drivers wing, find your intercooler and check neither of the hoses have popped off.. then follow the pipes back as far as you can and make sure its all connected tight.

check it on vag com too see if any fault codes pop up

could possibly be a MAF sensor, if it feels like the power is cutting out, or boggy! very common problem, and does not bring engine lights up!!

To be honnest how long have you had it? Mine used to drive like that before the remap, starts to pull then just flat after 3500-4000rpm.

Topher sounds like you are on the mark (again)

Jubilee clip on bottom intercooler pipe not there , no idea why some brown residue on the pipe corrosion of clip perhaps? , haven't tested car yet so fingers crossed.

cheers

residue means it's been blowing.. so thats probably the issue, opening up once the boost builds and p!ssing the air out. That would be the first one i've come across where the clip is actually missing though!

Still no joy colleague came round today with his vag com and couldnt find any electrical faults , he couldn't spend any time on it however reckons could be air leak or faulty turbo??

just need to eliminate things one by one i suppose.. do you know anyone with a golf (or any 1.8T really) who would let you swap MAF sensors to test if it's that?

Got the fault sorted out (vacuum leak) no to happy with the condition of some of the pipes , am i correct in saying you can buy a vacuum pipe kit from VW? if this is the case any idea the cost?

cheers

John

i can't remember if the ARZ has all the SAI gubbins under the intake manifold like the AUM does... if you need to replace that lot (all of it) it costs around £160 at trade price.. god knows what vw will sting you for it :undecided:

Thanks Topher, dont know if some solvent has at some time dropped on the hoses, they are in poor condition.Have got it running better (well a bit) still think there is something up as the performance is not as good as it should be .

I have purchased wazzzers old KO3 (57,000) to see if that improves things, once it is all ship shape and MOT'd i'm putting it up for sale ....sadly but i also have a VR6 4mo with 25,000 and a 2.0 5dr

My question is what should i ask for it ?

Its a tidy 2000 white 3 door 108,000 miles with every old MOT ,every tax disc and a bulging service history  .

all advise welcome

i found that when i bout my new golf turbo which hadnt been mapped, it felt dead, as if the turbo wasnt working. This is how they come as standard, they dont really have alot of pull for a turbo and you can only notice it more top end. However since having mine remapped that is when you really notice it has a turbo.

Personally if your planning on selling one of your cars i would sell the 4mo and then pump the money into the turbo.
