As above really, where can I find uprated bits + bobs? asked on here a while back but never got anywhere with it! - Ohyea, 1996 'AHU' engine.
Thanks
-
What parts are you looking for.
-
Well,
What can I do?
-
you can't do much I guess.
Ask on tdi forum is your best bet as the mk3s are mostly petrol. Sorry for not being much of a help.
-
whats is the greater plan that needs uprated internals, as in forced induction?
-
well, I intend to give it a better turbo, so I want to be sure the internals can handle it, on top of that, i'm going to be reconditioning the engine and thinking i'd like to put new + improved pistons, cams etc etc, just wondering what my options are
-
Have you considered a swap for a mk4 tdi lump, as those put out stupid power/torque when mapped?
-
So I hear, thing is, i figure with the price of the engine/loom/box + hassle! - I might be better sticking to my AHU - could be wrong...
-
You would be suprised how much uprated internals are..... lol.
-
I might be, if I could find the bloody things!!!

The fact you cant find them, tells you they are going to be expensive, if they exist. lol
-
this is true...
VW themselves used a 1Z engine tuned to somewhere in the region of 200bhp and won rallies with it!
-
Just drop a 130/150 pd engine in for less than you could buy pistons, cam an turbo.
Tunned to hell 1Z - 200bhp, VW would have spent thousands on this engine.
130/150 - remap 190bhp - Could be done for under 1.2?
-
Would need to look into exhaust sizes for the mk4 engine, but might be able to get away with maybe an 8v gti exhaust size? Not sure.
-
The TDi exhaust is the same bore as the GTi I thought?
Drop a mk4 PD in it and turn your car into a real sleeper.
-
check the german websites (ebay etc) for diesel tuning as they like there soot machines, oh and the higher powered 1.9td has the same exhaust size as the 16v
-
Unless it's crazy power you're going for 300+ I'd say the standard guts should be able to take it.
Just rebuild it with new stock parts and you should be fine.
I know of a S/c ABF which is nearly 300hp with stock internals and that get's thrashed rotten
-
forgive my ignorance but, what's s/c abf?
-
Supercharged 16v engine
I would say your clutch will go far before any engine internals.
Before you do any big torque mods get yourself a VR6 clutch and a G60/16v SM flywheel.
-
so i'll need a 3 piece VR6 clutch and a G60/16v SM (what is SM?) flywheel?
-
That's to be safe the torque wont pull the clutch apart.
Single Mass opposed to Dual Mass.
-
mk3's only came with single mass (we don't like the expense!)
-
Unless your going mad, standard internals should and will be fine.

speak to them....
bigger injectors, straight through pipe, up the fuelling...
