To be this excited?! Just had a call and car built and awaiting shipment!! woop woop!
-
Which build week did you have?
Rolfe.
-
Not sad at all.
It is one of the most exciting times of your life, getting a new motor, especially one as desireable as this.
If the female of the species gets excited over clothes, shoes, handbags etc. then us guys have every right to indulge ourselves now and again
Enjoy it.
-
i think it was 34 (could have been 36 or 38 - i can't remember lol)
whatever last week was, that was the build week. it has taken one week to build if that's any help.

Isn't this week only week 34?
i don't know lol - if it is then potentially rolfe will have to wait till next week for her car to start being built - but i'm pretty sure i was told week 34 but it started last week and finished this week so maybe VW are a week ahead? german effeciency and all that!
-
Isn't this week only week 34?
Yes, this is calendar week 34. :nerd:
-
Ditto! :)
I'm a week 34 boy and I was told mon/tue that my car was built and awaiting shipment too!
They can get the boat together!
Where you picking yours up from?
-
Do VW use the calendar months?
This week was week 34 by all accounts yet yours was ready on Mon/Tues!?
Sorry I'm just excited that mine due to be built week 36 might be started sooner than I think
-
yeah, cant think what else week 34 would relate to. i think they seem to be going ahead of schedule :)
-
Do VW use the calendar months? yes week 1 is week one of the year.
I hate you all lol mines not due till late November.
-
Maybe something to do with them not closing the factory for their summer holiday as per usual!?!
You'll need to keep us up to date on its progress i.e. build date to delivery date.
-
Ditto! :)

London - I'm picking up from Alan Day Southgate, prob drop mine off from the transporter before they head to Herts.
Mine is a 5dr deep pearl black - yours? Twins, but are they identical ones?!
(this is getting sad now!!)
-
I was told they sometimes run a bit ahead of themselves, but mine was supposed to be started on Monday.
Sounds as if they might be running a bit ahead.
Oooooooh, this is exciting!
Rolfe.

Mines built and awaiting shipment.
When I did the factory tour a few weeks ago they said they are making 2000 Golfs a day and the production line is working 24hrs, 5 days a week, they were just starting a Saturday shift as well so maybe they will be slighty ahead of schedule.
I saw a quite a few right hand drive GTIs being built or already built.
My dealer reckons 2 weeks for shipment.

Bedford. The dealer told me they use Grimsby port
I think it will be 3 weeks before I can pick it up. In other words - 1413 (Bank Holiday!) more "get ups" in the morning :)

I think my dealer said mine would be coming to Sunderland. Would that be right? Then presumably by transporter to Lanarkshire.
They should be starting to build it today!
Rolfe.

They use 3 ports in the UK so I guess Sunderland is the closest to your dealer.
It takes about 2h to build a car, so it can be anytime between now and Friday :) Of course the car will be touring the plant the whole day but the actual time someone puts something inside is about 2h. It's a really fast line...
I'm not sure if you've seen these but it's really cool  especially the part when they stick TSI badge and I see GTI :)

great find, i watched all 4 vids - fascinating lol!

The first bath is just water and some cleaning agents. The second bath is the primer. They dry it with high temp and blowers. The proper paint is applied in the body shop.

I assume the body work is already galvanised at this stage to stop it rusting.
Many years ago (15 maybe) I fitted some side repeaters to my Mk3 RS Turbo which meant drilling a hole in each of the front wings. Now, I thought the metal fillings would just blow off in the wind but the following day they had already rusted and attached themselves to the paint work. Needed a lot of elbow grease and T cut to get rid, lesson learnt.

Triplets!!!!!!

chaps if your cars are on the same boat as mine then its time to get excited - got a call this morning and mine will be in the UK in the next few days and i'll, i quote, definitely have it next week!!! now i really am getting excited!!!
-
Nice!
I got an email from the dealer yesterday saying that mine isn't in the uk yet, but that things will become clearer by the weekend... ?
Mine is prob behind yours then. Maybe there's a big queue of UK bound 59 plate cars at the docks?

mine's not in the UK yet but its on its way - yours may well still be on the boat as i'm guessing it will be the w'end when it hits UK shores?!

How long do these boats take to cross the channel? Surely can't be a matter of days?!

i've got no idea, my dealer wouldn't commit to giving me a day for collection or for how long it takes - i'm guessing its 2-3 days on the water (?) and then a day to drive it to the dealership - so he called me y'day, i'm hoping by fri i'll get a call - maybe!
-
woop woop getting my car for defo next week ! boo, its not till friday ! longest week of my life begin here!
-
I just got an update from my dealer. The car is on the ship. There is a slim chance for next week delivery but it's more likely to be the week after that.
That's fine. What's a week or two compared to the years I spent waiting for it :)
-
if its on the ship you have a good chance of getting it end of next week i reckon!!
-
Unless it comes with 50 other cars! But even then GTI should have the priority
-

they dont cross the channel they go by canal from VW plant to a port on the dutch coast I believe and they are shipped across the north Sea, And they come in on our east coast
-
I was told that they ship into Hull or thereabouts!! and as I live just up the coast in North Yorkshire got mine 2 days after shipping into UK, as it was journey of less than 60 miles up to the dealership.
-
Even im getting a tad excited now!! only 5days to go
