Title: Key and locks
Post by: tariqb on 21 August 2009, 04:23
i need to get my power locks working - the key opens the doors alright but the remote does not work. Anyone know how much it would cost to get the problem fixed by the dealer. It seems that it is only the dealer who can do it. Also i need 2 new keys cut and programmed. A rough estimate will be great.

does the interior lights come on when you open the door??

Check Fuse 14 in the fusebox if they don't

also have you checked the battery in the key fob

Thanks  -  So the key itself is £50  - good price, then i get it cut - again no probs - but then i've got to get it programmed, this is the problem. I will need to but the cable and the software which will be another £50. Is there anyone out there who can help me get the key programmed? Also could i just buy a generic key on ebay and follow the same process? Please advise Ivor or anyone else.

Timpsons IIRC, will cut the key for free. :)

No need for cable/software - There are members with the equipment dotted all around the country, who I'm sure would help you out for a few beer tokens. ;)

I've also read about local VAG specialists who would code the immob. for around £25, so you could maybe ring around for a few quotes, first.  :afro:

That guide looks fantastic. I'll put an ad out there to see if someone can help with the programming.

I guess I could buy a key, then get it cut and then programme it myself couldn't I? If i used the first guide on this post i could do it myself I think  - what do you think?
