Title: FAO Topher

What are your views on uprated intake manifolds? Is this something worth doing with a little ko3s,or is it only for the the big turbo guys?

i wouldn't bother unless you're aiming for the 300bhp mark... i would recommend an uprated intake manifold gasket though, helps keeps the temps down!

there is a guy on one of the honda sites i frequent and he can make thicker hondata (google it) style gaskets. dunno how hard they are to get hold of for the 1.8t though or how much if he even does them

pretty sure it was under 50 quid though

waiting to test that myself! some dyno logging with someone squirting a spray bottle at the IC is the plan... unfortunately my car is probably too low for the dyno now

The theory sounds like it should make a difference, but i guess we need to see some dyno logging to prove it.Wind it back up and give it a go.....

Sounds like a plan batman. If spray makes a difference to your fmic, it most certainly will with standard intercoolers.

This is a similar upgrade as to what people used to do to there Calibra Turbo's, however looking at the ABD intake manifold you may come across similar issue's as the vauxhall boys.

Because the chamber is not tappered and just flat at the front the air distribution between cylinders will be uneven, the cylinder nearest the cambelt will intake the most air and the last cylinder near passenger side will have alot less air as it is not directed evenly. Yes power gains are possible but if your not putting enough air in the chamber to supply all cylinders evenly then the cylinders will be getting uneven combustion due to the air/fuel ratio.

there are many different designs out there rectangular, cylindrical and tappered, and i believe from alot of reading that an increase inlet manifold with a tappered design would work better as it helps direct air to the last cylinder.

but tappered would only be on fully asp engines boys we have mr turbs that builds up that psi in the system that blows it in there for us not luggy cylinder suction anymore like carbs etc...

Cylindrical is because straight edges are bad at holding pressure. Look at gas cylinders, dive cylinders etc, guy made his own D-shape one and it blew up on a backfire :)

if you're going to go to that kind of extreme then water/meth injection is probably better.. that's something of a long term project i'll be looking at

sort of made progess on the cooler spray today.. by that i mean i perforated a bottle top and we squeezed it through the fan at ben's intercooler while holding his car under load on the dyno/eddy brake.. but we only got to do one run before his car ate another coilpack

LOL and Bens was really p@ss off..

We have a custom map on another AUM tomorrow PM, The bumper will be off when it is on the rolling road so I think we could play with the IC spray and eddy brake tommorow after the 1st power runs.  I try and video the result.
