Title: Purchasing soon
Post by: Liver on 20 August 2009, 16:02
orite everyone

im looking at purchasing a mrk 5 gti, im going to view one i like on sat.

I was wondering if there is anything specific that i should look out for, its a 55plate with 28k on the clock.

Also is it possible to fit the multi-functional steering wheel if i bought one with just the nornal wheel??

cheers

Liver

Have a search on the forum, I think there might be a 'buyers guide' on here somewhere.

I think it may well be possible to retro-fit the MFSW (do a search on google, I have seen a pictorial guide on there). If you are lucky it will just be case of sourcing a new steering wheel with the buttons on and coding it in using Vag.com. You may also have to replace the steering wheel control module if the one on the car doesn't have the correct functionality.

Not sure about the implications with the MF display in the dash pod, you might need the highline one to get full functionality (I think the highline display came as a pack with the MFSW).

It's better if you can source a suitable car that already has MFSW, although having been through the process myself there seems to be a lot of GTI's out there without this option fitted.

Make sure it has round wheels on it.

Welcome :)

Check the usual things - servicing (GTIs aren't too keen on Long Life, so make sure it's on Time & Distance)
Leather is a marmite option (not as high quality as the rest of the VAG stuff - I came from an Audi, the VW leather is sh@t)
DSG servicing, potential nightmare issues with the Mechatronic stuff (expensive to fix)

White worm on the wheels and rear badge

Sh1t stereo

The only other bit of advice is that I looked at about 10 cars before settling on mine - take your time!!

Good luck

Dan

According to Glasses guide,

A dealer should charge £13250 for a 2006(06) 3 door.

Private sale should be around £12000.

Check the engine code,if it starts with AXX make shure you warm it up & that it doesn't sound like a diesel on tickover. If it does it needs a new cam chain/oil pump chain.

Just make sure it's black.

Science fact is that all other colours are slower.

It also states that all other colours, (bar white) are cleaner too!!!

Not strictly true, if you're bothered by it you can get it done, but AFAIK its not an issue other than the noise.

If it's black, there's no need for colour-coding  :nerd:

Pricing is difficult at the moment, as they keep going UP!!!
Mine's worth more than I paid for it (from a dealer) 2 months ago.

I was astonished to find a 54 plate at my dealers for just £500 less than I paid for my 05 plate last year.  The 54 plate has more mileage than mine did and no leather / options.

But it was 'laser blue' - never seen that colour before in the flesh but it is    Why did they discontinue it?

I had one a while back, lovelly colour. Should never have stopped it. Reason was the arival of the r32 in deep blue pearlescent.

no rattles or anything

LOL !

Oh dear, give it time. The rattles will come :(

I've got a reasonably decent sound system which has shock a few nuts and bolts loose I think :( (Im not the only one). The cure to this is to turn it up even more :D

Hmmmmm . . . OK, the ergonomics in the Corsa are horrendous, and the interior plastics are , but in terms of 'mechanical' build quality, Corsas, just like all Vauxhalls, are pretty good.  OK, they don't use laser welding like all VW Group cars now do, but they have very strong bodyshells - unlike say a similar F0rd!

no rattles or anything unlike the corsa

LOL, you 'saw the light' further down the thread!

Can't argue with that.  I honestly reckon the Corsa is a better car than a similar-spec Polo.  :lipsrsealed:

Good luck - you'll love it!!

But be careful eh? It's a tad of a step up from a Corsa (not trying to be condescending  - just  looking out for a fellow GTi'er!!!)

chuuffffiiinnn heeelllllll

compared to my 1.2 its blooomin flies

pulls all the way through the gears. Had a smile on my face all the way home and on the way to work aswell this morning. Got sum pics but dnt have my phone cable and not sure how to upload via mobile internet.

Had few extras on that i didnt realise it had on it such as heated seats, autotmatic wipers and lights.

They were nice surprises.

I would very very highly recommend these cars if any one is considering one
