Theres obviously something wrong with the devices as most of us are experiancing problems now.

They are sold as suitable for road use, so it carnt be the way were using them, just down to there build quality or lack of.

whether they replace or not im going to start looking else where for a decent setup.

They are for road use, however for £180 I would think / suggest corners have been cut for them to be so cheap.

Are you all running the Raceland jobbies from hottuning?

My ones are made by TA technix, think they're over a year old now and they're still like new!! I can freely adjust them without slapping on half a can of WD40 first aswell lol

Well that is 8mths, they seem to last a max of a year plus they also seem to be damaging other parts being as firm as they are.

I'll report back at 12 months then, but I from a personal perspective I haven't noticed a change in ride since the day I put them on, what other things get damaged?

Nail on the head, or so i have been led to believe elsewhere   :smug:

old style raceland - not so good, and no warranty.

TA Technix - Better and warranted

but at the end of the day, a bare spring is 20 quid. so that leave 25 a corner to make the rest.

Pay cheap, pay twice. Weitecs FTW

They seem to knock out susp. bushes plus they cannot do a car being as hard as they are.

Fair enough, well I mean the only thing I'm going by is that they seem to be holding out very well, I had them on since Jan, had the MOT only a few weeks ago and said nothing was wrong under there, I'll give it some more time and see what happens, besides, I'll only have it for another 6 months anyhow :)

Any stiffen suspension will always increase wear on attached standard compents. Your original top mounts and bushes etc were not designed for that kind of treatment. Add to this the fact that people are fitting stiffened suspension to bushes and ubbers that can be 10+ years old and no wonder they fail quickly.

If you're going to lower a car properly you fit the coilovers with all new bushes (polly ones would be best) in the wishbones and drop links. You should also at the same time renew the top mounts for G60 ones and a new set of ball joints and track rod ends. THis way everything is new and in tip top condition from day one.

This is the ideal way but as it's expensive, time consuming and if you were to get a garage to do it horribly expensive people don't. Then complain when stuff starts falling off.

I'd like to know what is breaking on these coilovers though. Are they leaking fluid, breaking springs or is it just stuck adjusters?

That is some sound advice chap, only
thing I changed when mine were done was the top mounts.

Also. No one could ever be as much of an arsehole as
sharpie :p

You should have good grounds for a warranty claim then.

I hope so mate, i really do. Not that i would want to fit them on my car again! lol.

The road in colchester are appaling.

On the way to work today, in my dads discovery, some of the bums still felt like death. And thats a bloody 4x4!

I've had mine on for 18 months, done about 12,000 miles on them and they're fine- I'm not running mine very low though as I use my car for work and often have loads of stuff in it...

I could have sworn I had the Raceland ones from Hottuning but looking at the paperwork I have got the TA Technix ones fron StreetwearTuning in Germany.
Mine have been on two years now and had a look at them on the ramps today and they are fine.

Good advice from Horney - you cant put stiffer suspension on old bushes and expect them to cope. If you uprate one part you really need to uprate the parts used to attach it.

As far as your Hottuning warranty goes get yourself a letter from an engineer or your local garage and send it to Hottuning. They cant expect you to send the faulty shock back to Belgium leaving you off the road (but should you be driving with faulty shocks?)

I bought mine well over 2 yrs ago, have driven them hard a lot and have no issues with them what so-ever..

People who are running them right at the bottom of the thread daily are going to experience breakage simply due to the limited oil compression in the damper from running so low.. i wouldnt be suprised if they bottom out quite often on bottom thread..

from a handling POV, i regularly have a wee play with my mate who has an ibiza tdi lowered 40mm and he cannot touch me into and around roundabouts and twisties, thats him having more power than me also.. bearing in mind he kills me out of the straights..

maybe the build quality has got worse but i cannot fault mine...

I completely agree with Horney on this.

Had mine since Nov '08 and the coilovers themselves have been fine. The attached components on the other hand haven't. Needed new track rods/ends and top mounts since.

As long as you keep the coils greased they shouldn't seize either

Also there's something about the car now which makes me think the whole interior has been shaken loose slightly

i know theres been alot of gripes about customer service, but i have had a reply straight away to my email.

bassically they have sent me a warrenty form i need to fill in, send a picture of the fitted coily, and a copy of the invoice, and then they will sort the rest out.

I dont know if anyone else has got to this point?

i see,

taking a picture is not really going to prove much is it unles its a really obvious fault.
Title: Re: hottuning warranty
Post by: Mikester on 21 August 2009, 18:49
Taking a picture proves that they are leaking. But thats about it.

To be honest, the springs could snap and it wouldnt be their fault. I dont expect to get a reply or jack sh!t for my claim.

All i know is, i wont bother buying from then again, and will do my best to make sure others dont.
