As title, back of the car, on the passenger side, not got a clue what it is. happens when going over bumps.
Could be coming from the back door area, or the bit of trim where the seat belt goes into on the pillar, i thought it might be even further back then that, round the boot area.
Would the door rubbers make this noise? although the rubbers look good, and dont let any water in?
any thoughts?

I'm having a similar issue in the same area. I think it's the rear top mounts on the strut. I replaced them and it went away for a bit but I believe it may be that the struts need torqueing up a bit. I've eliminated all other areas so it's either that or the rear axle bushes.

Dont suppose your running hottuing coilovers?

Yep same as mine......true would not recommend them to anyone anymore.

Ive decided as of tonight to not drive the car till i replace them. As its ruining my wheels/tyres, that i just spent like £600 on. Plus it aint doing the car no good.
So narked off, im going to take them down with bad press on all forums.
All i want is a warrenty set!

Will join on this movement lol
As of tonight I have decided to buy a MK4 GT TDi, car will be off the road for months for a new engine  :smug:
Also check the rear bench bottom hinges they can become loose and rattle like mine also/

Good move. I wouldnt mind one of those bad boys.
I think i might just take the mk3 of the road for the forseeable future, and get cracking with it. And invest in a derv.

Off topic but I would never use Hottuning coilovers again.
-
Agree. lol

I think its certainly coming from that area...and yes i do have them!
It sounds to me though like its an interior noise coming from that area?
if you push down on the back of the car i carnt replicate the noise. maybe that is not a true indication of the sh!t roads we have though.
anyway i can test to either rule it out or pinpoint the problem?
(its definatly not the seats, first thing i checked)
Also... it doesnt seem to be as bad if at all if theres more weight in the car, ie i have passengers in the back.
And...pretty sure the same noise was on my 1.4 when i had the same set up on that, although not as bad!
-
Drive along and keep lurking the car with the gad in a low gear. Mine sqweaks like hell then. Or jump up and down on the boot. It's hard to tell where it's coming from.
-
What you could try and it helped a little with mine is to try spray on grease on the springs.
-
I think I've got the same noise! And yes, I'm also using sh*ttuning coilovers! Passenger side, sounds like it's somewhere around the rear strut. Hard to describe but its a sort of 'creaking rattle' type noise. In my mind it sounds like a rusty bit of metal flexing. Hmmmm... As its a lowered mk3 I suppose that probably is what it actually is!
-
+1 ob maybe being the rear axle bushes.
I thought I had a small mouse in my car when I had an '89 205 GTi
The dam think squeaked when I ran over a juice carton.... lol

As Ive said in previous posts got the hottuning coilovers on the group buy around december time. Had them in for a few months and had to take them out. Car looked brill lowered but squeaking and rattling and harsh ride got too much. The coilovers are out about 4 months and still havent fixed all the creaks and rattles since putting back in the original suspension. Numerous bushings, mounts, wishbones, tie rods etc have been replaced. Driving my mechanics mk4 tdi for the last week as its still knocking now and again and cant seem to get to the bottom of it. Costing a alot as tracking has been done loads of times and will have to be done due again once the issue is finally solved

Check your seats and door cards are tight

Lads I have EXACTLY the same noise in my car, its like a squeek, but its a rattly squeek, It was there on my standard suspension and its been there on a H+R cup kit with new top mounts, its not the seat belt or hinges and its not the speaker cables .
its been driving e mad for a year, its like a flippin gerbil in the rear qrtr panel
-
If its the rear 1/4 card then take it off and put it back on making sure you do everything up.
-
done... more than once...
-
Are you sure it's from the rear? I had this EXACT noise, rattle and squeak and it was the anti-roll bar loose. 19mm nut IIRC and it was moving forward and back and squeeking and was rattling like no ones business. Tightened it up and it's all good.

The thing is it's just on the rear right hand side. And it sounds like it's coming from the the rear quarter/strut top. I'm seriously starting to think it's the axle bushes, even though it's coming from the strut top.
Could it be the axle on that side, sending the movement up to the strut top? Thus making us think it's coming from inside the car, at the rear.
Are there any other components that could cause the strut to make such a noise?
I'm running a Jamex suspension kit, approx 60mm.

Yes rear top mounts or if it has been put together wrong.

Just been out had a quick look.
From what i can see (which isnt a lot as the car is obviously low) and bad light, the shock on the face of it looks ok. obviously i can only see 10% of it so reserving judgement on that
pushing the car down from the boot, i carnt replicate the noise, and theres no abnormal noise from the shock
pusing the car side to side, i carnt replicate the noise, and theres no abnormal noise from the shock
i apreciate that when riding along the road the forces are going to be greater and different directions.
Im going to take some of the trim off tomorow do a bit more digging, otherwise when i get my exhaust done next month i will get the garage to have a good look over the setup of that shock/area.
