Title: WTF specialised car insurance?
Post by: chungE on 17 August 2009, 20:28
Not a complaint or moan but i was just surprised.
Used confused.com to get a quote for the MK5 Golf Gti Edition 30 myself as main driver, fully comp, with sp50 and accident(which they ddint count as it was more than 3 years ago), both parents who had fully clean licences. Im 24 and will be getting 3 years NCB soon(fingers crossed).
Admiral quoted me 1042 fully comp.Yes i have spoke to a real live person on the phone at admiral who said the price was correct!
Brentacre quote me £1698. Without parents they said it wouldn't matter.
HIC said same as adrian flux who quoted me £2000?
So isn't that weird? or am i missing something? I thought the specialised companies would've quoted me cheaper , ah well.

Have you tried Greenlight? Im reasonably young (22) and got my MK5 with them for £1009.

It's standard though. As soon as you mod it Admiral will shoot up and the others will seem much cheaper!

To my knowledge Admiral wont let you mod it? At least Elephant wouldn't let me mod mine and they are the same company ?  ?

I filled in the form for Greenlight and no one called me back, no messages or emails or anything.
I'll not be modding this car for at least a year anyways

a mk5 is a lot less specialised than a mk1/2/3 etc (thats not a dig at the mk5 in the slightest - although a lot are enthusiast owned, many are not, not as many are modified, very few require agreed value due to the age etc) so if you have no plans to mod the car then you may well find more "mainstream" companies more competitive being under 25 with a fairly high value/high performance car. If you do decide to modify the car then that is likely to change.

Admiral will only cover 2 mods, so lowering and say a different grill is about it but a specialist company will cover everything.

I'm 20 with Admiral and can declare mods...sorry, I'll rephrase, I WAS with Admiral, and when I was 19 going into the policy, they allowed me to mod. :)
