Title: CAN MY MK3 VR6 USING PASSAT VR6 ECU?

My mk3 vr6 is using 021-906-258CB ecu, i saw one use ecu  in the junk yard with no 021-906-258M ,plan to buy it keep as spare and wondering whether it will work for my vr6?

I was told that all Golf ECU's are coded to the car.

To get a replacement the existing ECU has to be sent away with the new/replacement ECU to have the codes detected and swapped over.

Dont know how true this is but thats the info i was given for my Mk 3 16v.
